For the upcoming exhibition DISCO: I'm Coming Out, which, following its first presentation, and its huge success at the Philharmonie de Paris last year, will be held at the Wereld Museum in Amsterdam from 10 October 2026 to 22 August 2027, we are looking for two KLIPSCHORN AK6 speakers, either new or vintage (the famous speakers that provided the sound for David Mancuso’s Loft) (as Klipsch is no longer able to supply them to us). We are therefore looking for lenders or collectors who would be willing to take part in this new Disco project!

Photos : Roger Kisby, Electric Daisy Carnival, 2016 ; Caroline Hayeur, série Rituel Festif, Montréal, 1996-97 ; Alfred Steffen, Portrait of a Generation : the Love Parade Family, 1996.

You may not be familiar with “Big Rooms,” a great album by Deep Space Network, a duo composed of David Moufang and Jonas Grossmann, released in 1993 on Source, a Heidelberg-based label. This is an historic milestone in the new German scene of the time, somewhere between ambient, downtempo, and “listening techno” (and an early chill-out classic). David Moufang (Move D) had the great idea to remaster and re-release it via Bandcamp. I had lost the CD 30 years ago. What a pleasure to rediscover it !

NOUVELLE LECTURE EN LIGNE (Librarium)

To learn more about Eliane Radigue, a composer who recently passed away, here is an excerpt from my latest book AMBIENT MUSIC, published by Le Mot Et Le Reste.
(Picture and statue by Xavier Veilhan)

In the booklet accompanying her CD L'île Re-sonante, journalist and musicologist Daniel Caux echoes the words he uses to defend the approach of La Monte Young and other musicians who have followed the same path: "It is one of the prerogatives of minimalist music based on long sustained sounds, when it is properly conceived and imbued with genuine inspiration, that it is capable of plunging the listener into a trance-like state, a kind of waking dream that paradoxically increases the acuity of their listening and allows them to perceive the smallest details and the most subtle nuances of what they are hearing [...] Formed of a tangle of cycles, the sound mass inexorably continues on its path until—whether in reality or illusion—one has the sensation of an acceleration in tempo and, little by little, the singing voice reappears and seems to respond to itself in a regular interweaving of translucent echoes. The effects of speed and slowness are, in fact, highly relative in this music of long sustained sounds, as they combine with that of immobility in the trompe l'oreille of the interactions of sound waves.

Éliane Radigue, whose work is less rigorous and more open than Young's, belongs to this nebulous group of composers, close to the notion of ambient music (which she would undoubtedly reject), for whom the question of sensory disruption, prospective listening, perception, and the passage of time is central to their musical project. Her pieces “move and evolve like a slow-motion ocean, with imperceptible movements,” says Joseph Ghosn. The journalist and critic concludes: "At the end of the journey, the senses are transformed, just as the environment in which the music has been listened to seems to have been turned upside down. To La Monte Young's music, she adds gesture, an infinitesimal gesture, a slow progression [...] For those who know how to pause and listen, it is the work of time regained."
