Most of my heros aren’t people who climbed the corporate ladder, although a few of them have.

Most of my heros did what they loved, and because they loved it, many of them became really good at it, and some of those who became really good at it kept working at it, and a small few of those that kept working it became the best in the world at it and those that became the best in the world at it got to make a living doing what they love.

So it seems there is a direct correlation between people doing things with all of their heart and getting to spend their lives doing it for a living and I think those are the people I really admire and look up to the most.

Not because of their success, but because how many times they must have failed and still kept going.

It’s possible. ✨

I am under no delusion that I did this alone. I have been absolutely blessed with incredible family, friends and mentors who were willing to teach and encourage me every step of this journey.

But it was not a journey that was easy and it certainly wasn’t one that was handed to me.

I think that’s why when I hear “you’re so lucky” I cringe a little, because the path to this point, the one you see here on the internet, was paved with incredible pain, hardship, sacrifice, hard work, faith and courage.

Growing up my dad used to say “if it was easy everyone would do it, it’s the hard that makes it great!” And I have spent a lifetime learning that lesson but it’s all been more than worth it.

I could have never imagined in my wildest dreams, kicking dope in rehab nearly 11 years ago, that one day, I’d travel the continent and make photographs that would adorn those very walls one day.

This has been an incredible journey. One that I wouldn’t trade for anything in the world because it’s uniquely mine, and now my entire mission is to give it back and show others that if I could do it, so can anyone. That no matter your circumstance, ITS POSSIBLE.

Thanks for letting me share.

~Justin ❤️

Yosemite national park comes alive in the spring. Not just because of the rushing waterfalls and the flowers, but because of the symphony of sound that echos throughout the valley. If you’ve ever strolled along the Merced or sat high above the valley floor as the sun rises above the Sierra Nevada, you know what I’m talking about. The @smallrig.global S70 wireless mic helps me capture the full story of Yosemite in all of its glory. And with a variety of silicon covers, it blends into the scene and any outfit for on camera sound without taking away from that story.

Justin Krompier (@just_passinthrough) shares the profound "moment of clarity" that finally shattered his denial about his addiction.

His vulnerability is a powerful reminder that hitting rock bottom isn't always a dramatic event; sometimes, it is just a quiet, heavy realization that it is time to change.

Cue the trust fund nepo baby comments.

The reality is that I have chosen the softer easier route, that being my comfort zone, my entire life. Not listening to my gut, not speaking up for myself, not taking the necessary risks to get where I wanted to be.

For years I stayed in active addiction, jobs, relationships even friendships long past the expiration date simply because I knew the outcome, it was familiar, it felt comfortable, even if it meant remaining in excruciating pain.

When the van build was almost done and the departure date started feeling real, I questioned many times whether or not I was making the right decision. I was clean, I was on a new and exciting career path, I had work that I liked and was starting to take on my own photo jobs, but I knew I would always wonder what could have been if I stayed in New Jersey and didn’t scratch that itch.

Someone told me once, “Justin, you actively destroyed your life on a daily basis for years and have been able to build it all back AND THEN SOME, I think you can afford to take one year off to chase a dream, and if it doesn’t work out, well… you’ll start over and build it all back up again.”

My life, since getting clean, has been a continuous trust fall with the universe and my higher power, having the courage to walk through fear and chase my dreams and in nearly every single instance, I’ve been caught and landed exactly where I was meant to.

I’ve learned that I cannot stay committed to both my dreams and my comfort zone at the same because living a dream requires growth, and nothing grows in my comfort zone.

Thank you to all who made the ultimate sacrifice so that we can live in a country where you can start with nothing and still make something of yourself. I am eternally grateful.

Justin Krompier ( @just_passinthrough ) shares the serendipitous and vulnerable story of his final admission to rehab after battling with addiction for several years. After being denied a bed at his previous treatment center, his lifeline came from a chance encounter with a woman he had met on a train five years prior.

I don’t say yes to shooting many weddings, but every now and then I take one on and in the case of @unusualbehavior_ and @tayliux , I hit the jack pot because not only did I get to shoot some old friends from back home, but I got to do it in my favorite place on earth.

Thank you guys for trusting me with your special day.

That being said, if anyone else wants to drag me out somewhere pretty to shoot your wedding, I’m available.
