Hi friends! I’m trying something new for Biddeford ArtWalk here in Maine this summer.

On Friday, May 15, I’ll be hosting the first Ina series of Third Friday Photo Walk with Josh Johnson — a free, low-pressure guided creative walk starting at the studio at 22 Pearl Street.

We’ll gather at 5:30, get a simple photo prompt, then wander downtown together noticing light, texture, people, odd little details, and whatever else Biddeford decides to show us.

Bring any camera or phone. Truly. This is not about gear or being “good enough.” It’s about slowing down, looking more closely, and making something alongside other people.

This is part of the first ArtWalk of the summer with @artofbiddeford.

Register here: https://is.gd/ThirdFridayPhoto

I’ve put the link in the bio

Spots are limited, and all levels are welcome. I’m excited to get back to teaching and facilitating. I hope to see you there! - Josh

Pulled over after the rain to shoot this beautiful atmospheric action happening on the tennis courts. It surprised me how quickly it came in, went and came back again. You learn new stuff all the time if you pay attention.

My friend and photographer @cycyrphoto recently stopped by the studio and asked to interview me for his blog about Maine locals, @bricktides. I’m usually behind the camera so it was a little scary, but I’m glad I did it! My time on Instagram and this community are the most interesting things about my career, so that’s mostly what we talked about. Thanks Cy. That was fun. Always so impressed by your skills.

Maine’s Josh Johnson had a front row seat when Instagram was released in 2010. He downloaded the app when it was 72 hours old and provided helpful tips for better photography. The Instagram founders (@kevin and @mikeyk )noticed, and suggested every new user on the platform follow Josh. We sat down with @joshjohnson in Biddeford to learn more about the photos and videos he’s working on today and the community he built at @jjcommunity.Read more on BRICKTIDES.com #maine #biddeford

It’s good to get different perspectives.PS. These comments are all mixed up. I was trying to copy and paste a long thread below and I guess the algorithm tells us what we should be reading now and not chronologically. Anyway. 🙂 Try getting chat GPT to critique your image and get in a debate with it. It’s fun because I have a feeling it always lets you win. 😉. It’s weird times folks. 😳 #jj1Aday

“What are you trying to say?” I think It’s the most important question we can ask ourselves when we create.

For me, in photography, it’s about isolating the subject—using depth of field, camera angle, and exposure to minimize distractions. I’m learning, the same process applies to pitching ideas: the challenge isn’t having good ideas; it’s clarifying and communicating them clearly.

This wall of signs at the entrance of the studio reminds me how too much information, even if it’s all good, can dilute the message. I’m remembering that strong communication often comes down to what you leave out.

I’m working this week on a presentation. We’re pitching to make the content for a company for 2025. Anyone have tips on pruning ideas into a clear, impactful pitch? - JJ #JJ1aDay
