Todays Friday Feature Album (7pm @wgtnaccessradio106.1fm ).

Fog. Through the mushroom cloud and fallout of this toxic shift right comes the unrelenting roll of drums and driving bass; the shimmering slices of sharp edged guitar and the hiss of synth dispersal; the chants of seeing and naming. In the naming comes the knowing. In the knowing comes resistance. In the resistance comes hope.

Another release recorded by the incredible Vanya Vitali. It is through his incredible efforts and staunch advocacy of recording that we have such a awesome output of powerful albums from our local punk community. My respect for him, and the musicians he records, is huge.

This is just one manifestation of the supergroup that is all groups to come out of Turret.

This weeks Friday Feature Album (listen to 106.1fm at 7pm). A brilliant realisation of community through @cocteau____twink's personal words that are profoundly human and resonant. Poetry of self that is the self of the listener. Syllables of one mouth amplified through collaboration to become spells of solidarity. A brilliant work.

A snippet of the jeepney ride home from the mall yesterday. This one had a sick sound system and was playing hip hop tunes, as seen on the screen to the right of the driver.

The drivers are impressive multitasking geniuses #adhd πŸ˜‚ They're driving as fast as possible through congested streets, NOT CRASHING INTO ANYTHING, watching for passengers, taking fares, counting money, calculating change, keeping an eye on how many people there are on board and making sure everyone has paid, listening for passengers yelling "para" (stop), pulling over and letting those passengers off, listening to their favourite tunes on loud sounds systems, AND probably watching those music videos some of the time!! #everythingeverywhereallatonce

Tomorrow at Thistle Hall I am doing my first ever performance of Rzewski piece. His thinking and politics have always been fascinating. These pieces use the words of inmates from Attica, a maximum security prison where an historic uprising was violently suppressed. From the wikipedia entry "it started on September 9, 1971, and ended on September 13 with the highest number of fatalities in the history of United States prison uprisings. Of the 43 men who died (33 inmates and 10 correctional officers and employees), all but one guard and three inmates were killed by law enforcement gunfire when the state retook control of the prison on the final day of the uprising."

I am not sure I can truly understand the lived experience. And I am unsure if this music can communicate it. So I wanted to at least include this framing in promoting this show.

In an election year where the right are doing their regular dog whistle rhetoric around crime and the "criminal" let us remember what they are promoting - increased suffering and violence that does nothing to heal or learn. And the use of state power to continue an active process of colonisation and suppression.
