My dear friends at Lionsgate gave me the opportunity to travel to Gary, Indiana where the Jacksons grew up and prepared to make history. I do a lot of press tours and we typically hit the large population cities around the world. But this film made it a point to work with the incredible community in Gary to premiere this film at the place they call home.
The energy was historic; a feeling Iβve only felt once before when Sinners premiered in Clarksdale, Mississippi. In both of these moments I got to see the amazing power that films have to bring together a community, despite either of those towns having a permanent theater within their city limits. It inspired so many ideas within me of how art can impact people in towns big and small around the world and what the future of theaters could look like.
Thank you so much to everyone at Lionsgate for having me. It literally takes sooooo much work to put together something like this and get it to the point where I can capture it so thank yall so much for making it a priority.
