Joe Ferriso previously taught a color theory class at Stanford, where colored Plexiglas was used to explore the effects of color. In this piece, he draws on those same materials, continuing that investigation. Throughout Ferriso’s work, materials are intentionally sourced and repurposed as an analogy for the processes of searching andfinding

“I see the found elements of driftwood and construction waste as related. These fragments of growth and labor are shaped in part by chance, place, and circumstance. In responding to their shape, color, and texture, I seek the placement that reorients the material.”

- Joe Ferriso

On Saturday, April 18th from 1-3 pm @eleanor_harwood_gallery there will be a casual and communal noise / sound event in the gallery. @joeferriso is inviting kids and anyone else who might wander by might feel free to pick up an instrument and play. There will be some sound stations for people to interact with. It's meant to be a cathartic experiment in sound, no rules, just improvisation. We hope you can swing by!

"I've always equated sound with vision. When a painting feels right it's usually about tone, pitch or timbre. I've never studied music or learned how to properly play an instrument and perhaps that's why it feels so liberating to experiment with sound."

Joe Ferriso: Lost & Found

We are pleased to share installation images from Joe Ferriso's solo exhibition: Lost & Found. The show will be on view through April 25th.

"The artworks assembled here grew out of family outings to the beach, solo walks past construction sites, and conversations with neighbors and friends about things they need to get rid of. The backstory matters deeply to me. Where do things come from, and why do we hold onto them? Each time I make a piece of artwork, it becomes a kind of time capsule, bearing witness to events in my life, in our community, and in the world. I like to think that my artwork finds me, and hopefully finds its way to others as well."

Please join us this Saturday, March 14th, from 5-7pm for the opening reception of Joe Ferriso’s solo exhibition, Lost & Found.

Lost & Found is a body of work that has culminated over the last three years, drawing inspiration from the wilderness of Northern California, specifically Sea Ranch. In Ferriso's work, paintings, functional chairs, tables, and lamps coexist with the other work, eschewing the divide between craft and art.

Lost & Found will be on view from March 14th to April 25th.
