The butterfly saga continues…

I meant to share this 2 weeks ago, but crippled butterfly took the spotlight… but I still wanted to share this precious moment ❤️

And if you’re wondering, I currently have 5 chrysalis’s and doing my best to protect them from this extreme heat with shade and light mist of cool water. Three of them are on my house, one on my plant, and one I rescued is safe inside my house and more monarch caterpillars are jumping in line! I still can’t believe it. 🦋

More Monarch Miracles!

I know I’m posting a lot of butterflies these days, but I can’t help but share the beauty and miracles they’ve shown me…
So get this, I was awaiting yet another butterfly to emerge (I’ve lost count of how many I’ve had just this year!)… Well, butterfly emerged this morning! However, yesterday I spotted another butterfly outside on the ground that had emerged and I didn’t even know I had another chrysalis! It was on the ground hopping around when I realized its hind wings were shriveled up! It broke my heart because it couldn’t fly! Its forewings were ok, and the bleeding heart in me decided to take care of it just like I did with the other crippled butterfly last year.

I knew the other butterfly in the chrysalis was coming out today based on the way it looked and timing. When I went home to check on my butterflies, they were both there! The new butterfly was hanging spreading its beautiful wings. I took Butterfly outside on my plant so it can warm its wings in the sun and get ready for take off.While I did that, I took my crippled butterfly outside as well so it could enjoy the warmth of the sun.Moments went by and the new butterfly flew away as I expected.

Then minutes later, the crippled butterfly flew to my surprise! It landed on my front tree and there I decided to let it go because it was able to fly from my plant to my tree, then suddenly crippled butterfly flew to the sky! Even with its hind wings crumpled!

Two amazing monarch miracles in just the last two days, I’ve probably had about a dozen at this point or more that I didn’t know about, and my heart is just fluttering with joy. 🦋

If you’ve been following my butterfly story, you might be wondering if my recent caterpillar/chrysalis made it. It sure did! I got to see it transform through all it’s stages into a beautiful Monarch butterfly! I can’t believe I was able to catch it in real time!

Recap: A month ago, I caught my first glimpse of a caterpillar turning into a pupa/chrysalis, the day it transformed into a chrysalis, it was too hot and windy, so I made the last minute decision to cut the branch and tape it to a stick and protect it from the harsh elements.Weeks went by and the rain and heavy wind storms came, but I made sure it was protected, along with my other chrysalis that formed a week later too!

Because of the weeks of cold and rain, butterfly took a little longer to emerge, which is normal in cooler temps, but finally a week ago butterfly emerged and I got to see it with my own eyes!It stayed over for one night until it was ready to spread its wings, and now I’m just waiting on my other butterfly-to-be, and today, just spotted the teeniest tiniest caterpillar on my plant yet again! They just keep coming!

But while they have been making my home their home since last year, I also discovered recently that Monarch butterflies are threatened and their numbers have been dropping significantly over the years, the most recent count is 480! Dangerously low! Just to give you an idea, in 2022- there were 24,128, in 2023 there were 16,347. Back in 1990, there were 230,000!This breaks my heart because of how much they mean to me. So, please, help me save our Monarch butterflies!

You can help by planting Native Milkweed! Another crazy thing… I didn’t even know I had milkweed. It was growing spontaneously! This gives me hope for our Monarch friends. Hopefully this inspires you to share and to help out too! 🦋
