James Norton

Our second cover star for Port Issue 38 is James Norton (@jginorton). Ahead of the much anticipated next season of House of the Dragon and four-part biopic The Beatles, Norton takes a seat with a close friend – the ever-suave Bill Nighy. Left to their own devices in a café or restaurant somewhere in London, the two cover everything from suits to smiles, dancing to mozzarella salads, eventually finding common ground in their appetites for life.
Norton wears @lardiniofficial. Excerpt below:
James Norton: But that’s life, isn’t it? I mean, we spend our lives walking around afraid of shame. Occasionally you come across someone who is so free from the observing eye, and I envy them so much.
Bill Nighy: Is restraint something you’ve had to learn, or does it come naturally?
James Norton: No. It’s something I’ve had to learn. I naturally have an appetite for everything. And I think I’ve lived for a long time with the misconception that giving that appetite full agency fills my life with experience, when in fact it leaves no room for stillness or appreciation. And it’s not just about work or taking up opportunities. It’s about going to a buffet and wanting to try everything. We did a film together and I don’t know if you remember me ordering my food…
Issue 38 is available for pre-sale now at the link in bio.

Did it. Just. Had a chest infection which made it pretty gruelling (and took longer than hoped), but the incredible support from the crowds carried me to the finish line. So much love and sweat and tears. A mad and beautiful experience 🥹 @londonmarathon
Mostly though, a huge THANK YOU to everyone who donated to my @justgiving page to raise funds for @breakthrought1duk. With the additional support from the v generous @bukhmanfoundation, right now we are at a total of £132,000 and counting 🙌🔥🙏 This money will go towards supporting young diabetics across the county, but also each pound raised gets us closer to the cure that all of us Type 1 Diabetics so desperately want, including my mum, my sister and this brave little girl in the above photo called Emma, who is 6 years old, but was diagnosed when she was only 2 🙏☀️
Thanks also to the tech that got me safely to the finish line. I wear a @dexcomukie G7 monitor and an @omnipod 5 pump 24 hours a day (the devices stuck to my arm in above photo) but they were especially important during the marathon, keeping my glucose levels in range and therefore keeping me safe 🙏😚
Love to all my fellow T1D warriors out there. We got this 👊 xxx

Hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I loved reading it!’

🚂 ❤️
Very excited, and a little apprehensive, to be running the 2026 @londonmarathon for @breakthrought1d 🥴 I’ve never run a marathon before. The idea of running 26 miles in one go has always seemed like a crazy idea. It still does. However, the opportunity to raise funds and awareness for this incredible charity makes it more than worth it.
Breakthrough T1D does vital work in finding a cure for Type 1 Diabetes. My mother, my sister and I all have Type 1 and our lives have been made immeasurably better by all the work Breakthrough T1D does.
I’m aiming to raise £26000, 1000 quid for every mile run. But if I can raise 260k, even better 😎
So please send a little love to diabetics all over the world by donating towards my 26 miles of madness. Link to my @justgiving page is in my profile above 👆 A heartfelt thank you 🙏❤️

The Ride video is out now. Thank you to James Norton for being my Cowboy and to Thomas James for directing a beautiful video - the shoot was such fun and all done on film, making it extra special. Buckle up, giddy up and enjoy!

A couple of weeks ago I fulfilled a dream of mine - to go trekking in Uganda with the mountain gorillas. And now I’m going to try share the profundity of the experience. Safe to say, it was one of most magical trips of my life.
We went with a company called @abercrombiekent @aksanctuary, and honestly you cannot go wrong with these guys. The gorillas can only be found in two parts of the world, the Bwindi ‘Impenetrable Forest’ national park in Uganda and the Volcanos national park in Rwanda, and A&K operate in both. These gentle giants don’t survive in captivity (there are none in any zoos in the world), so if you’re going to see them, you have to make the pilgrimage to their world. And whilst it is a long trip, I promise you it is worth it.
On the first day we opted for a long challenging hike, wanting to see as much of the jungle as possible. After a few hours of walking over vast hills, through dense vegetation, we met Muyambi, a family of 6 mountain gorillas named after their silverback, meaning ‘helper’. The next day we met the Katwe family, 10 gorillas - 2 silverbacks and some babies. We sat amongst them as they ate fruit from the trees, the whole time feeling like we’d been invited to their dinner table. Spending time with these majestic beasts is extremely humbling. Dian Fosse said, “walking into the forest to be with the gorillas is like stepping back into another age, where humans are no longer dominant”. And it’s true. When you look a gorilla in the eye, all the small crap of life disappears and you feel a strange sense of calm. It’s incredibly humbling and moving. And rare. And exciting.
Abercrombie and Kent took care of everything. They are the only company to have a lodge within the park, so you wake up to the sounds of the rainforest (in your admittedly luxurious cabin). They will also show you the various community projects they run: the Bwindi community hospital, a Women’s Bicycle Enterprise and beadmaking workshops to name a few. We roasted coffee with Eliza, drank fresh banana gin with Michael, and danced with the Batwa. All so special.
Sounds a bit grand, but this trip was life changing. I can’t recommend it enough… x
