The title comes from a quilt my mother made me as a child, embroidered with the phrase which she got in a fortune cookie just before I was born. The figure is the night and the moon, sweeping in the nighttime across a tiny village as she walks.

I embroidered countless glass beads and rhinestones onto her cloak, which is made of various shades of blue silk velvet. Some of the velvet is from a scrap left of a (guessing from the silhouette) vintage 1930s dress.

Always have the intention to film more of the process, but here’s some- rough sculpture (outside so I don’t get clay debris/powder everywhere), then after it’s partially dry (“leather hard”) I slice the piece in half in order to access the middle and hollow it out. Then, after it’s hollow, I reattach the pieces and let it dry slowly. It’s then fired in a kiln (twice! 2000 degrees!) to fully vitrify and ta-da it’s a finished ceramic sculpture! Part of the process for this new sculpture- of course I forgot to film the part where I actually sculpted the figure, but I did record the *not tedious at all* cutting out and gluing of approximately 400 little tiles made of foam.
