At the Paris end of Collins st, you duck into an aptly modernist, grey and ghostly commercial building, Coates.

The ride to level 4 is liminal, but at the end of that hall, you arrive at SKANT. In the walls of flayed white t-shirts is warmth and buzz underneath the score of a child’s playroom. In the centre of the room, a pseudo folding screen has been made with two sheets, accompanied by a rack of hanging accessories. It’s a different world you’re in now, like the inside of a closet.

“SKANT is an independent runway exploring the intersection of fashion and art. This year’s theme, ‘obsecure,’ examines contemporary influences on personal style - embracing raw self-exression and playful experimentation, like dressing up in someone else’s wardrobe.”

The show begins, the soundtrack is of Maple Syrup Factory’s (Hiroshi Yoshimura) light chimes - playful,
whimsical.

Then comes Cooper, looking like a football jock on his way to prom in the most sleazy way possible.

“sometimes theres a pulsing that reaches my fingertips and toes” (2026)
text on video, TV & projection.

Lately I have been unfulfilled in the pursuit of a career in fashion. Circulating thoughts on legacy, connection, and social ladders build tension within me, causing physical deterioration and great anxiety.
But why the pursuit when I’ve already figured it out?
The meaning of life is to love.

Situated in @emergingartists_collective ‘s After Dark Runway afterparty was my site responsive installation based on this concept. The work is a thought transcript relying only on word and pacing to weight the room. The attempt is to converse with the crowd of emerging artists, fashion designers, wannabe models, via an atmospheric, emotionally vulnerable experience.

Installed in various parts of the room, I thought the video(s) would act as the elephant in the afterparty; a silent truth that would’ve resonated with almost all the attendees. What happened instead was a great irony - a work that cries out specifically to the people it wants attention, validation, connection from, was pushed around, snubbed, or deemed worthy of a glance by very few in a space where everyone is thinking of themselves.
I saw a model physically pick up one of my projections and put it to the side because it was in the way of her photo op. (Who doesnt want a great picture of themselves smoking?) This extension of myself that I thought would move my peers was instead an obstruction to be moved.

When prompted with vulnerability, there was no dialogue. I swirl in the pursuit, making sure I’m spit out on love’s exit. Their pursuits were networking and a posed photo. The conversation was one-sided.
The installation, in a room DEDICATED to its existence, asks, “I don’t feel worthy, and why do I have to? Why do I feel excluded?”, was deemed unworthy and excluded.

It was very interesting for me to create a site-responsive work, only for the site to not reply.
Thanks to Kat for the having me, your support for small artists is unparelleled. Congratulations on this being EAC’s 10th show; so few could achieve this in just a few years. Your dedication is seen by all in this community.

Introducing our next live artist for our “After Dark” afterparty, @jayjaigray ⭐️🙏

“My multidisciplinary practice is a mode of documenting and translating my emotions or thought experiences into the material. This often results in romantic abstractionist self-portraits; my presence as an artist invoked in passionate texture, vivid colour, erratic text, or atmospheric light. My practice utilises found objects, reflecting a personal sentiment about the perpetuity of change (and how love propels it,) and climate collapse.

I want you to feel”

Introducing our next live artist for our “After Dark” afterparty, @jayjaigray ⭐️🙏

“My multidisciplinary practice is a mode of documenting and translating my emotions or thought experiences into the material. This often results in romantic abstractionist self-portraits; my presence as an artist invoked in passionate texture, vivid colour, erratic text, or atmospheric light. My practice utilises found objects, reflecting a personal sentiment about the perpetuity of change (and how love propels it,) and climate collapse.

I want you to feel”
