I brought the CampSnap 8 with me from Dallas to California to document the trip, and honestly, this thing feels like carrying around a tiny Super 8 film camera from another era.

The whole experience slows you down in the best way possible. The shape, the vibe, the way you shoot with it, everything about it makes you feel like you’re filming memories instead of just recording content.

Airports, city lights, coffee shops, random moments in between shoots, this camera turned the entire trip into something that feels nostalgic before it’s even over.

What I love most is that it doesn’t feel overly polished. It feels human. Like old family footage you randomly discover years later and instantly get emotional watching.

So this California trip became my little documentary, shot through the CampSnap 8.

Some of the biggest shifts in my creative career happened when I stopped trying to post for everybody and started letting Instagram actually get to know me.

That sounds weird, but hear me out.

The video that changed everything for me, the one that crossed 2 million views, was literally me sitting in a chair talking about all the hats I wear:Photographer.Videographer.Editor.Creative Director.Producer.Social Media Manager.Entrepreneur.

For the longest time, I thought I had to pick ONE thing so people (and the algorithm) could understand me. But the moment I stopped trying to fit into one box and started consistently showing the real overlap of what I do, things started connecting.

That’s also where the “dating Instagram” conversation came from.

Most people treat Instagram like a random hookup:Post once.Disappear for two weeks.Come back with a blurry photo dump.Then wonder why the relationship isn’t working. 😂

But Instagram learns from consistency.It learns from conversation.It learns from patterns.The same way people do.

The more clearly and consistently you communicate who you are, what you do, and who your content is for, the more the platform understands where to place you.

That doesn’t mean you have to become fake or niche yourself into a corner.It just means you have to become recognizable.

Honestly, this podcast conversation reminded me how important it is to embrace all the different parts of creativity instead of apologizing for them.

If you’re multi-talented, this is your reminder:You don’t have to shrink your creativity to fit somebody else’s algorithm.

Why do phone tripods suck… when they really don’t have to?

Seriously. Most phone tripod heads feel cheap, awkward, flimsy, and somehow make creating content harder instead of easier.

But this one? This one actually feels like it was designed by somebody who shoots content for a living.

The YJ-002 from @manbily_ has quickly become one of my favorite mobile filmmaking tools because it solves so many problems that creators deal with every day.

It has a full three-axis design, smooth movement, 360° rotation, fast switching between vertical and horizontal shooting, built-in leveling, and an aluminum build that actually feels solid in your hands instead of feeling like a plastic toy.

And honestly, that flexibility changes EVERYTHING

When you’re shooting reels, interviews, BTS content, product shots, podcasts, YouTube videos, or even simple talking-head content, your workflow changes completely when your gear stops fighting you.

One of my favorite things about this setup is how quickly I can adjust angles without rebuilding the whole rig every five seconds. Overhead shots, low angles, vertical content, horizontal content… it just works.

And in a world where more and more professional content is being shot on phones, accessories like this are becoming way more important than people think.

Good content doesn’t just come from a good camera.It comes from good tools, good workflow, and less friction between the idea and the shot.

One of the biggest things that changed my Instagram growth wasn’t a secret algorithm trick, a viral Reel, or buying followers. It was consistency.

Back in 2024, I had around 1,800 followers on Instagram, and honestly, my posting strategy was basically random. If something cool happened, I’d post it. If I liked a picture, I’d post it. If my mom would think it was funny, I’d post it. There wasn’t really a clear direction, no real content strategy, and no understanding of who my audience actually was.

The hard part for me was figuring out my niche because as a photographer, videographer, creative director, editor, and content creator, I have a lot of different things I could talk about. Lighting setups. Camera gear. Storytelling. Business. Creative process. Behind the scenes. Branding. Social media strategy. There’s a lot.

So near the end of 2024, I made a decision: in 2025, I was going to post consistently every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. No matter what.

Mondays became educational content. Wednesdays usually became behind-the-scenes content. Fridays could be photo work, commercial shoots, creative edits, filmmaking projects, client work, or whatever else I was creating that week.

And honestly, that structure changed everything.

For almost the entire year, with maybe only a couple missed days, I stayed consistent. At the time of posting this, I just crossed 6,000 followers. No, I didn’t hit my goal of 10K by the end of the year, but I also learned something important: growth doesn’t always happen as fast as you want, but consistency compounds.

One thing I’ve learned as an entrepreneur and creative is that expectations can either motivate you or constantly disappoint you. I joke that I practice “disappointment management,” meaning I try to keep my expectations grounded so I can appreciate progress when it comes instead of always feeling behind.

And honestly? I’m grateful for every step of the journey.

If you’re trying to grow as a photographer, videographer, filmmaker, entrepreneur, or content creator, keep showing up. Consistency matters more than people think.

Purpose matters more than money!

Everybody wants cinematic interviews until they realize way more than the camera, it’s all about the lighting.

One of the things I love most about filmmaking is experimenting. Taking inspiration from things we’ve seen on Netflix, YouTube, movies, documentaries, music videos, and then asking, “How can I make this feel like me?” That’s where creativity really starts. Not copying, but learning the rules well enough to bend them into your own style.

Sometimes the smallest lighting adjustment completely changes the emotion of a shot. A little negative fill, a splash of color, a harder shadow, a softer bounce, suddenly the frame feels dramatic, intimate, mysterious, or cinematic. That’s the magic of lighting.

And honestly, some of the best ideas come from just playing around. Turning lights on and off. Moving them two feet to the left. Trying something that might not work. Creativity grows through experimentation.

Don’t be afraid to steal inspiration and turn it into something original. Every great creator learned by studying other creators first. Practice at home. Test weird ideas. Build the shot you wish existed.
