Over the course of a few weeks a pink border began to emerge during the rinse and wash portion of the dye process but it is with great enthusiasm today that I share the @virginiadreamfc Spring/Summer 2023 Home kit in Dream Pink. Pre-orders begin at 1:00 PM EST today on club’s website. Link can be found in my stories along with some behind the scenes snippets.

Each shirt was hand-dyed using a Japanese technique called Shibori Itajime and the window pane pattern is a call back to @_lm97 and I’s Portuguese heritage.

The Home kits debuted in a Wednesday night victory during the inaugural @vsslsoccer match. It’s an incredible feeling to see these shirts moving around the pitch and the win makes it sweeter too.

We teamed back up with @nickthekidd to unveil the kit. You might remember him as one of the faces of the crest t-shirt campaign from this past winter.

The numbers and back neck accent were designed by @caseypeckio.

Since I started making my way back to soccer, I have always wanted to work on a kit launch for a professional club. In June, I had the chance to create the photography for the 2023 Major League Soccer All-Star game kit launch. I’m beyond elated that I was able to make these images come to life with a group of people that are very special to me in the city that I love. Each time we all work together the level gets higher. Thank you all for pushing me to be better.

Last week still feels surreal. And I hope it stays that way for a bit so that I can slowdown and sit with this experience.

A portrait that I made with Alonzo and Carrone Sawyer was awarded Second Prize in the National Portrait Gallery’s Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition. The photograph was originally commissioned by The New Yorker for a story about Alonzo’s experience being misidentified by Maryland Transit Administration’s facial recognition software for a crime that he did not commit- he was in another state at the time of incident. The mistake led to Sawyer spending 10 days in jail.

Despite several delays, a government shutdown and continuous attempts to sanitize our country’s arts and history, the exhibition opened to the public this past Saturday. The notion of having this work displayed during a time where surveillance and facial recognition are both just about commonplace is not lost on me. It’s a scary time and I hope that the work can lead to more conversations about safety and oversight with this technology.

It’s an incredible honor to stand alongside all of the talented artists in the exhibition. If you live in the DC and the surrounding area or just happen to be visiting, please consider pulling up to see The Outwin 2025: American Portraiture Today at @smithsoniannpg The exhibition is open now until August 30th.

Immense gratitude to the curators, jurors, NPG staff, the Boochever family, Andrew/The New Yorker and especially Alonzo and Carrone- the photograph would not exist without your trust.

And I would be remiss not to thank all of my people that showed up for me this past weekend. Your texts, DMs, phone calls and those that physically showed up to support me despite weather- all of this means the world to me. Feeling very grateful and lucky to call all of you friends ❤️✨

And I would be remiss not to thank all of my people that showed up for me this past weekend. Your texts, DMs, phone calls and those that physically showed up to support me despite weather- all of this means the world to me. Feeling very grateful and lucky to call all of you friends ❤️✨

One in eight federal workers, or some 300,000, will have left the government by the end of December. It’s possible even more could be pushed because of the government shutdown. Many chose to resign amid concerns of widespread cuts, and will soon receive their last paycheck. Others were fired because they were new to the job, while a variety of positions were eliminated.

I spent most of the summer criss-crossing the United States, listening to the stories of two dozen former federal workers for The New York Times. Immense gratitude to all of the workers who shared their stories with me. And many thanks to @jfurtand @marisaschwartztaylor for the support and for trusting me with such an important and timely story.

In order:

Julianne P. Weis, U.S.A.I.D.
Joseph Edwards, AmeriCorps
Yvonne Robertson, General Services Administration
Joaquin Baca, U.S. Forest Service
Soledad Maria Ivaldi, National Institutes of Health
Stetson Kastengren, Bureau of Indian Affairs
Victor Udoewa, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

The Flyest Super Falcon 🇳🇬✨

Michelle Alozie makes statements on and off the pitch. An accomplished player at the national level for Nigeria, a cancer research technician at Texas Children’s Cancer and Hematology Center and an emerging style icon.

“Fashion to me is just so freeing, it allows for you to express yourself creatively and authentically,” said Alozie in describing her flair for personal style.

Saudade House teamed up with New York designer, Kevin Leonel to create a custom jacket to celebrate Michelle and mark the Super Falcon’s 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations championship.

“For Michelle’s jacket, I pulled from three different eras of Nigeria’s football history: the 1994/95 kit, the 2022/23 kit, and the 2025 kit. Each one carries its own story and identity, and I wanted to merge them together with a luxury Italian tweed to create something that honors both tradition and modern style. The inspiration came from showing how history and progress can live in the same piece, one of one that reflects Nigeria’s culture, football legacy, and Michelle’s individuality” said Leonel about the process and creation of the 1 of 1 piece.

The jacket used repurposed kits that had a personal connection to Alozie’s history with the national team.

“I was AMAZED at the craftsmanship of the jacket. It has pieces from the very iconic Super Eagles ‘94 jersey and patchwork from the jersey that us, Super Falcons just won WAFCON in. I LOVE IT. The 22 on the sleeve and the inside embroidery detail has to be my favorite part” said Alozie upon first seeing the jacket.

Michelle and the Houston Dash continue their NWSL playoff push this weekend as they take on the Washington Spirit Sunday September 28, 2025 at Audi Field in DC.

We have passed the MLB All-Star break and Fall is around the corner so it made sense to finally share this project. A few days in Sarasota, Florida this past Winter to photograph the Baltimore Orioles during their spring training for The Banner. Aside from making a connection with the athlete and a strong portrait, media day is a combo of performance art, customer service and knowing which Morgan Wallen or Feid track to play- all of my favorite things! Much gratitude to @azambelich for the edit and support and a thank you to @y00lz for the help on the ground.
