Casa Tropical

ENNEA, PUERTO ESCONDIDO
~ An oasis shaped by climate and coastal landscape

Located near Punta Zicatela beach in Oaxaca, Ennea is a nine-room hotel shaped by its climatic and geographical context. Positioned on elevated terrain and bordering a nature reserve, the project is conceived as a retreat that encourages disconnection, offering expansive views of the Pacific Ocean while immersing guests in native vegetation.

The architecture is organized into three primary volumes placed along the urban edge to create a protected microclimate that opens inward toward the landscape. The first volume, a double-height reception space, acts as a transitional threshold—guiding visitors from the street into the gardens and shared spaces. The second volume houses a large palapa-style restaurant elevated to capture sea breezes and panoramic views, supported by exposed concrete columns that enable cross ventilation. Beneath it, service and administrative areas are discreetly integrated.

The third volume is a linear block combining an open, shaded ground floor with two upper levels of guest rooms, connected by a sculptural helicoidal staircase. Oriented to preserve views, it ensures visual access to both the reserve and the sea from all rooms. The ground plane extends into a lush central garden featuring a pool, bar, massage pavilion, and treehouse-style rooms, reinforcing a seamless indoor-outdoor experience.

Materially, the project draws from regional textures—exposed concrete, wood, stone, and local fabrics—creating a tactile, grounded palette. Ennea emerges as a quiet refuge within the growing coastal fabric, balancing openness, climate responsiveness, and spatial calm.
