Excited to share our short documentary “Spina Americana: A Photographer’s Journey” will be having its World Premiere this fall. A big update on that coming in a few weeks!

What a fun weekend it was exploring the mountains, a very windy sand dunes national park & beyond.

There’s a stretch of Highway 87 in Northeastern New Mexico where long coal trains run parallel to cars and trucks. Beyond them, on the horizon, extinct volcanos rise from the prairie.

I always feel compelled to pull off, most especially today. I guess, if the journey was ever the point, it’s the places in the middle I most want to be.

At any rate, metaphor established - this was my last week at NBC 5 and my last in television news.

In a note I typed up recently, which I forgot to save from my work laptop before I turned it in, I spun a few lines about the personal significance of all of this.

Went something like:

I’ll miss the people, the bond - the hard truths and perspective this life has offered. It’s fitting NBC 5 was the last place I worked because it was also the best. North Texas and Dallas truly became home.

But anyway, time to jump back on the road.

A few hours up ahead is the Colorado state line, a few hours beyond it is the small mountain town I grew up in. For the next few months the plan is to work a modest job and once again find dirt beneath my nails.

In August, I’ll be heading out to LA where I’ve been accepted to study directing at the American Film Institute. It is an immensely humbling opportunity that the life I have been afforded to this point shouts at me to do something meaningful with.

We’ll see what happens. I’m happy to be on the road.
