Recién en 2023 Panamá permitió oficialmente que los estudiantes afro lleven su pelo natural. Eso nos recuerda que todavía hay mucho cambio por hacer.

En el archivo de Roberto encontramos fotos de su anuario, donde ya se expresaba a través de su pelo. Y podemos ver, desde allá hasta hoy, cómo ha sido una fuente principal de expresión para él y algo que también toma en cuenta al mostrar el alma de sus sujetos en sus campañas editoriales.

El pelo, a lo largo de la historia y hasta hoy, sigue siendo un vehículo de cultura, expresión y seguridad.

For Roberto’s montage, we turned to archives of Afro-Latino icons like Celia Cruz and Joe Arroyo, blending them with the pulse of Garifuna drums and hip hop. The images move from La Ceiba to the Bronx, the two places that shaped both his life and his work.

This montage is a bridge between heritage and present, a portrait of Roberto in motion.
