Sunday 24th May 2026. @itsdarrellsmith I will be at His Majesty’s Theatre in London’s West End.
It’s been quite the journey since Northern Soul at the BBC Proms. Many gigs around the country, tours with the @bbcconcertorchestra and the @soul_brothers_syndicate_ , putting my own band together to a sell out crowd at @thegrandvenue , along with doing a show at the Manchester Arena with Peter Kay, bits of guesting and solo work, releasing two singles with more in the pipeline, as well as returning to the @royalalberthall for Traitors at the Proms. It’s all been leading up to this Sunday. Here is a slideshow of what has been going on since my breakout performances at Northern Soul at the Proms. It’s been beautiful chaos. I think this sums it up, A Day In the Life. A song that mentions my hometown of Blackburn, the Royal Albert Hall and a crescendo that encapsulates the last few years.
Thank you to everyone that’s been part of this incredible journey. Keep The Faith. Darrell #northernsoul #keepthefaith #singer #bbcproms #hismajestystheatre
Tour Diary Episode 5: Barnstaple The Queen’s Theatre. Friday 15th May I travelled South West and was awake close to 24 hours to take our show to Barnstaple. Here is some behind the scenes action, including soundcheck to stage footage of the Casualeers classic. ‘Dance, Dance, Dance’! #northernsoul #keepthefaith #darrellsmith #livemusic

Proms season is just around the corner and here is a video as shared by BBC Arts across all parts of the BBC. A stone cold classic on the Northern Soul scene #itsdarrellsmith #darrellsmith #bbcproms #northernsoul #keepthefaith

In answer to yesterday’s question: Which was the last song to be played at Wigan Casino?
Well, according to Russ Winstanley, he played Frank Wilson’s ‘Do I Love You (Indeed I Do) at the ‘final’ all nighter on 19th September 1981 (numerous video interviews are available online)
However, in his book with David Nowell, its states a couple more ‘final’ all nighters happened on 2nd October 1981 and lastly 6th December 1981.
So it is a convoluted situation. The 6th December all nighter was “only three quarters full”, according to DJ Dave Evison (as told in the book pictured). So it is still up for debate to a degree. The people who were there, as ever, will be an infinitely better authority than me. One thing is certain, it all adds to the legend that is Wigan Casino.#wigancasino #allnighter #northernsoul #keepthefaith
