“In 1848, Camila O’Gorman (the Juliet of the pampas) and her lover, the Jesuit priest, Ladislav Gutierrez, were hunted down and executed by a firing squad for their illicit love — Inspired by this true tale, Sospiri is a haunting meditation on passion, defiance, and memory.”

After several years of watching and learning from peers and mentors performances of ‘Sospiri’ (@teresecapucilli, @virginiemecene, @anearrieta, @zachjeppsentoy), and also Jai and I learning that intro sequence perhaps, 3 or 4 times over the course of 3 years (persistant!), we were finally able to enter this narative fully this past August. Having grown so much as both individuals and as partners over the past years (we’ve known eachother since 5th grade!), it felt as though the several failed attempts to learn this piece prior were all for the sake of arriving to ‘Sospiri’ at this moment in time. A very special landscape of many hearts - Thank you to Jacqulyn for trusting us with this one…

Isabella Pagano is a shining example of what it means to grow within the Martha Graham legacy. She began in our @teensatgraham program, trained rigorously through the Martha Graham School, rose through the ranks of Graham 2 @graham2official , and has been working with the main Company. She is bringing with her a deep, internalized understanding of the craft into the next phase of her journey, and we’re so proud of her!
