Hungarian Book Design 2025 - EXTENDED

Established in 2022, the Hungarian Book Design Award aims to compile and showcase, year after year, the publications from the Hungarian book publishing industry that have been designed and produced to the highest standards. From among the books published in a given calendar year, a jury of experts selects the best in two rounds; these are then featured in an exhibition of the winners and included in the award’s printed and online catalog. The organizers’ explicit goal is to integrate Hungarian book design into international professional networks, which is why they commit to nominating the winners each year for the “Best Book Design from all over the World” international competition organized by Stiftung Buchkunst.

We have been living in this current political system for more than 15 years, and the system lives within us. It has crept under our skin and into our brains with its new, created words, rewritten concepts, manipulated images, and emblematic faces. It has also inscribed itself into culture, among other things through the MMA (Magyar Müvészeti Akadémia), the Hungarian Academy of Arts.

Painter András Király elevates the MMA to a universal level, making it a metaphor for the system. Everything and everyone on his posters is MMA. Király began drawing his satirical poster series, Atelier Populaire, 13 years ago. The posters, which are also caricatures and puzzles, are prohibited from being displayed in public spaces.

This book contains two studies about them in Hungarian and English, offering readers interpretation and context for the works.
The volume presents all of the poster designs to date, and provides background information in Hungarian for some of them, as the puns only work in Hungarian. All this is happening to us.
We collected it before it was forgotten.

Painter András Király elevates the MMA to a universal level, making it a metaphor for the system. Everything and everyone on his posters is MMA. Király began drawing his satirical poster series, Atelier Populaire, 13 years ago. The posters, which are also caricatures and puzzles, are prohibited from being displayed in public spaces.

This book contains two studies about them in Hungarian and English, offering readers interpretation and context for the works.
The volume presents all of the poster designs to date, and provides background information in Hungarian for some of them, as the puns only work in Hungarian. All this is happening to us.
We collected it before it was forgotten.
