“Community to me, means not feeling alone,” says Sukh Sohal, when we asked him about the upcoming festival of lights, Diwali, next week. 🕯️
As the founder of @jawani4eva, a global party dedicated to preserving the legacy of Panjabi culture and designer of British-Panjabi contemporary clothing brand @lahos.world, we spoke to Sukh about what it means to be the light for the communities he’s building across his two homes between New Dehli and London. 🫶

In recent weeks, heavy rains & severe flooding have hit Panjab, causing loss of life to both humans & animals, compounded with destruction to homes & livelihoods. Infrastructure throughout the state has been left in ruin & farms have been left waterlogged.
When the floods first hit, the immediate fear was that families would go without food & essentials. Thanks to the combined efforts of local communities & NGOs/charities, those urgent needs were met. The real challenge now lies in the clear-up. Efforts are underway to clear the flood water & fix the damage. However, the devastation from the floods will take many months to rectify and get people back on their feet again
An area of specific concern is farmland that has been buried under layers of silt & sand once waters recede, meaning farmers cannot replant their crops— their only source of income. Many farmers rent the land they farm, which means that even after losing their crops, they must still pay rent, despite no income
To respond to this, @humanitet_org began providing diesel for farmers who already have the machinery but simply could not afford to power it. This diesel is being used both to clear farmland & to run mosquito-spraying machines. These machines are very costly to operate, but are vital in preventing potentially deadly outbreaks of dengue fever & malaria.
Humanitet have also committed to helping rebuild as many homes in a village in Gurdaspur. Torrential rain destroyed houses, forcing families to take refuge in the local Gurdwara. Rebuilding is not only about restoring shelter now; it’s also ensuring that families don’t have to evacuate every time the rains come. Each home rebuild costs between £3-4,000 depending on size & needs
We wanted to support these efforts by organising a fundraiser for Humanitet. With thanks to beautiful art by @turbanoutfitter, @saffronswordart & @instukh we’ve designed 3 tees depicting the land of 5 (Panj) Rivers (-aab). Large design on the back, Panjab in Gurmukhi & Shahmukhi scripts on the front - high quality tees in an oversized fit. They’re available to pre-order via the @jawani4eva website for a limited time. Please allow ~4 weeks for shipping!

In ‘The Akhada’, Aman steps into the ring of Pehlwani, a fading art in modern-day Panjab. As he trains, forms brotherhood, and battles the weight of legacy, he learns that true strength isn’t about domination, but discipline, pride, and ritual.

How This 30 Year Old Figured Life Out @intsukh | drop your best advice for a 30 year old today below 👇🏻

Over the past two years @intsukh has been busy throwing raucous, sold-out @jawani4eva parties across the world, from London to Ludhiana to Toronto. A new photography book — Dresscode: Panjabi by @hark1karan — captures the journey so far. To celebrate its release, I wrote about visiting Sukh’s @lahos.world workshop in Delhi last year and spoke to him about his efforts to build an inclusive, global community for @dazed 🕺🏽💃🏽

As many of you will be aware Panjab and other regions in the North of the Subcontinent are experiencing severe flooding and destruction caused by water logging.
Many have lost loved ones, homes and their livelihoods. Those with the least have been hardest hit. Efforts are still underway to stem the flooding and clear the water. However, the devastation the flooding has caused will take many months to rectify and get people back on their feet again.
In a beautiful show of resilience and unity, ordinary people have banded together to take matters into their own hands to rebuild their homes and communities, supported by the likes of @khalsa_aid @yoursevaorg @hemkunt_foundation
We wanted to support these efforts by organising a fundraiser for Your Seva org. With thanks to beautiful art by @turbanoutfitter & @saffronswordart @artbyjaswinderkaur we’ve designed two t shirts depicting the land of 5 (Panj) Rivers (-aab).
Large design on the back, Panjab in Gurmukhi & Shahmukhi scripts on the front - high quality prints on high quality tees with *all* profits going to YourSeva charity. they’re available to purchase/pre-order via the @ikkdukaan website until 31st july- link is in my bio also. please allow ~3 weeks for printing + shipping after this.
additional thanks to @sunnyformats for help with the artwork 🙏
