Looking back, artists Jon (@jonpettyjohn) and Tessy Pettyjohn (@tessypettyjohn) remember how little support there was for ceramicists 50 years ago. Today, the community continues to grow, which Jon describes as “continuously exciting.”
“There’s a very expressive trend in the minds of young Filipino artists,” Jon observes. “It’s a kind of fusion,” he muses, comparing it to our food, a natural blending of what’s come before. “It’s evolved through hundreds of years. Maybe that’s what happens in our art, too.”

Sharing this video we produced for @rustansph for their Christmas campaign!
Prior to the shoot, @simon.te asked me to create a cinematographer’s note to help guide the team and keep everything running smoothly on set. It was one of the first times I really felt prepared — like I finally understood what I needed to do. 🤣
But the stars weren’t aligned that night.
When we arrived at the location, the sky drenched our entire set, and our original plan immediately fell apart. The shot list I worked on quickly became useless.
Still, thanks to the brains of @simonte, @artunepo, and everyone on set, we managed to rebuild a new storyboard from scratch and put together a new set design to work with. I just did my best to adapt and work with whatever we had — and somehow, everything came together in the end.
