Sir James MacMillan has today been announced as Featured Composer of @the_halle Orchestra for the 2026/27 season.

The season opens with the world premiere of MacMillan’s 6th Symphony conducted by Kahchun Wong in September 2026, and his Christmas Oratorio is conducted by Sir Mark Elder in November 2026. As part of the plans, MacMillan will conduct the orchestra in an Easter programme including his 'Seven Last Words from the Cross' alongside works by Bach, Wagner’s Good Friday Music from 'Parsifal' and Rimsky-Korsakov Russian Easter Overture. Also planned, MacMillan will conduct an ensemble concert including his Raising Sparks with soloist Mary Bevan, and his Larghetto with the Hallé Youth Orchestra.
