Socks & Stilettos 1st edition: VAR
The first edition of the new multi-disciplinary performance series, Socks & Stilettos takes VAR (Video Assistant Referee) as its theme, with contemporary artist Sara Sjölin, sound artist and musician Soli City and performance artist and choreographer Thjerza Balaj.
Together, they will explore the constant surveillance, power, and repetition that we, as individuals in a modern society, are subjected to. Everything is registered, leaving little room for chance or for what is taken for granted as natural — what does surveillance and control mean for our perception of reality?
By bringing together three artists and new artworks on the theatre stage as a platform, we aim to create a new understanding of the stage space’s potential for visual movement and fusion.

Socks & Stilettos er en serie af performances, hvor vi inviterer tre kunstnere, der arbejder i forskellige medier, til at skabe et værk ud fra en fælles tematik. Den første udgave hedder V.A.R. (Video Assistant Referee)
Begrebet er et billede på den verden, vi lever i i dag – en virkelighed præget af tiltagende overvågning og en konstant jagt på det perfekte liv.
I samarbejde skaber visuel kunstner Sara Sjölin, musiker Soli City og performance kunstner og koreograf Thjerza Balaj et tværkunstnerisk værk. En park i Berlin danner rammen for forskellige tidsforløb og scenarier.

Socks & Stilettos is a series of performances inviting three artists working in different media to create a collective piece rooted in one topic. The first edition is called V.A.R. (Video Assistant Referee)
The term symbolises the world we live in today – a reality marked by increasing surveillance and a constant pursuit of the perfect life.
Visual artist Sara Sjölin, musician Soli City and performance artist and choreographer Thjerza Balaj create in collaboration a multi-disciplinary piece. A park in Berlin sets the scene for different timelines and scenarios.

..In this exhibition, the sculptures traverse staircase-like shelves. The figures climb, plummet and chill on the static steps that lead nowhere. The figures only hold a shallow surface of illusory depth (In that way they resemble at least some humans...). Aluminium sheets have been banged with a hammer to render their indecisive limbs, unable to settle fully on a motion or a pose.
Whether it is social climbing or simple elevation they seek, the figures are frozen in their quantum states – shoulder joint locked, but the arm flails. Torso settled, but the legs can’t seem to decide if they want to repose or run away. De facto, they end up going nowhere, even if the gestures indicate progress. Alas, all they actually accomplish is, as mentioned, to cling on... one more day...
