Paul Hungerford
Actor/Improvisor/Director AssocAD @outsideinthtr Co-creatr/Co-directr Hope Falls(improv soap opera) ST: The Improvised Generation & Cthulhu Improvised

I love acting. I always have.
That lead me to fall in love with improvisation.
Over the years I’ve had the chance to study with incredible improv teachers: Jo McGinley, Dan O’Connor, Tracy Burns, David Razowsky, Gunner Rohrbacher, Karen Maruyama, Cynthia Szigeti and many others. Every one of them shaped me as an artist.
Then the pandemic happened. For the first time in a long time, I wasn’t learning alongside other artists. I missed it more than I realized.
Years ago, a brilliant artist told me: “Improv is like love. You have to give it away.”
When we opened Outside In Theatre, I knew what I wanted to do. Share the things I love most about improv: story, character, relationships, and the way people connect.
I love noir. The longing, the danger, the loneliness, the people trapped by their own desires. I wanted to push the genre forward. A future soaked in ugly neon and acid rain. A future where technology evolved faster than people did. A future where it’s easier to talk to a machine than another human.
And underneath all of it, one question: What makes us human?
Dark Metropolis throws itself into that space.
We may not always like what we find there. I wouldn’t expect a happy ending.
But if you have some time in early June, come join us somewhere in the neon shadows of Los Angeles.
I can promise you safe passage through the front door. After that, be careful who you talk to.
In Dark Metropolis, every connection is dangerous.

I have come to realize one of the most joyous things I get to do in this life, is build community. It takes patience, listening and space.
You try something and it fails. So you try something else and all the sudden everyone wants to know more. A show as simple as ‘Short & Long of It’ has done just that inspired our community to come out and play, make each other laugh, connect and just enjoy each other’s company.
Friday night at 9:30 is another show and I hope you can come out and spend time with this brilliant burgeoning community. Join us, come watch snd come play. We need you here. #comedy #improv #theatre #lathtr

They got the call. They showed up. The rest? Nobody knows, and that’s exactly the point.
