This panel brings together climate communicator Joycelyn Longdon and environmental journalist Imogen Malpas (who together DJ as @subsolarsoundsystem) with two visionary artists—Madame Gandhi and Laura Misch—whose work transcends conventional boundaries of music, intertwining it with activism, environmental advocacy and social justice. Their discussion will explore the intersections of music as a catalyst for ecological awareness, a platform for amplifying underrepresented voices, and a tool for driving systemic change.
SPEAKERS:
@lauraemisch is a saxophonist, singer, producer and field recordist from South London. Her music brings together her three core voices—saxophone, vocals, and synthesis—blending electronic production with a deep connection to the natural world.
@joycelynlongdon is an award-winning environmental justice technologist, communicator & PhD candidate at Cambridge University. She was 2022’s winner of the Emerging Designer London Design Medal & was featured in British Vogue’s 2023 Forces for Change Issue.
@madamegandhi is an award-winning artist and activist. She has been listed as Forbes 30 Under 30 in Music and BBC 100 Women. Her mission is to use music as a medium for a message about positivity, personal expression and human thriving.
@imm___o is an environmental journalist, medical student and founder of the award-winning Club SOL, a collective connecting people to planet through creativity. Her single ‘the garden’ was recently shortlisted for the BBC Tune Into Nature Music Prize.
