Defeat Device returns, co-produced by The Machine, with a star-studded cast of live performances, emphasizing the hard and soft elements of the global post-club axis. Built around tailored lighting scenes and a bespoke sculptural installation, this event will showcase both the ambient and ethereal (Malibu, Cole Roberts) and the darker, torqued-up sounds of deconstructed club (aya, Kat Nzhingha, No Author).

SOS is starting a new series interviewing Philadelphia-based artist-run project spaces and galleries. Episode 01 is with @timothybelknap of @iceboxprojectspace , one of the longest run spaces in the city. Within the conversation, I ask about what makes Philly such an especially experimental art scene, the emotional/financial cost of running the Icebox, what @collectivefutures.info is and the Icebox’s role within the network, and what the biggest missing piece is in the scene.
Be sure to attend their Talent Show Fundraiser this Sunday, Feb. 22 at 7:30 p.m.

Now, One With Everyone! was an un-juried group exhibition hosted by Icebox Project space. In order to participate, artists needed only to bring their works to the gallery space during a four-day window. There was no theme, there were no pre-qualifications. The resulting exhibition is a group photo of sorts, a portrait of Philadelphia art in this moment. Over 100 artworks are situated salon-style along a 47 x 20-foot indigo wall.
Ezra Masch’s VOLUMES at Icebox Project Space, 2022. VOLUMES uses live sound from a drum set to activate an immersive grid of lights. The system translates sound into a visual language, allowing percussionists to express their ideas 3-dimensionally throughout the room. Participating musicians explore the connection between sound, light, and space through a series of live performances. The installation at Icebox Project Space was the 6th iteration in this ongoing project. For three weeks, the gallery was transformed into a site-specific audio-visual instrument in which experiments and collaborations with a variety of artists took place.
Light & Sound is a series of live events hosted at Icebox Project Space, organized by local promoters. It includes a sound system, stage, lights, lasers, and Philadelphia’s largest disco ball, of course.
Show Town, 2025. Picture this: a small town square that’s surrounded by unique buildings. Each time you visit, each building is filled with new artworks, films, installations, and creative experiments.
