30 years of jazz and 17 brand-new works! 🎷✨

I’m super honoured to be part of the Clarence Composers Collective, commissioned to write a new piece for the 30th birthday of the Clarence Jazz Festival at @rosnyfarm.

My work, “Luck on Our Side,” premieres this Saturday at 3pm. It’s written for a powerhouse nonet (9-piece#!) and celebrates the incredible Marjorie Luck OAM, who started this whole festival back in 1996.

Come and hear a delicious array of new music from 17 Lutruwita composers as well as a jam-packed program of brilliant improvising musicians. See you there!

I’m performing a free 3 hour solo concert at QVMAG Royal Park this Saturday 1-4pm, surrounded by the incredible hyper-realistic artwork of Sam Jinks. You’ll hear my neo-romantic/ambient music echoing through the whole upper floor, so wander around and soak in the art. I’ll be situated in front of this incredible “Divine Messenger of Light” sculpture. Pop along for a short while or stay for the duration ... A little bit of Breath after dark.A massive euphoric and mesmerising installation that we made at RANT Arts HQ in Devonport.

When: Wednesday 23 July to Sunday 27 July
Where: RANT Arts - 47 Stewart Street, Devonport.

It’s a 100+ cubic metre air-driven kinetic sculpture of undulating silk and video projections, with a soundtrack of exotic flute choir using instruments ranging from the #contrabassflute to #shakuhachi.

Breath will be open from 10am - 4pm daily during the LuminoCity and Devonport Jazz festivals.

On Friday 25 July 6-7pm, Breath will be accompanied by an hour of blissful, ecstatic improvisation by Ian Chia’s “Joy from Thin Air” trio as part of Devonport Jazz Festival, featuring Spike Mason on saxophones and bamboo flutes, Bruce Innocent on drums and percussion and myself on keys. The recording of the performance will form the soundscape for Breath for the rest of the festival.

I’ve been creating music and sound design for the must-see production of Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, by the @launcestonplayers . With an amazing cast, brilliantly directed by Jeff Hockley, and a visual feast of video set design by my mad-scientist/artist collaborator @darrylbrogers , implemented in style by @mr_kym_t and a crazy number of video and audio cues run by Ashley Eyles - it opens this weekend and goes until Sat 12 April.
