360 Waves is the kind of album that doesn’t knock—it’s already on your couch, wearing a velvet durag, sipping a beverage you didn’t order, and debating the physics of low-key menace with your throw pillows. You look around: somehow the lamps have rearranged themselves, your cat is taking notes, and a faint smell of vintage vinyl lingers in the air. The name alone—Durag Dynasty—feels like a manifesto scrawled on a sticky note in the middle of a Dada art exhibit: regal, absurd, culturally sharp, and somehow perfectly unbothered. At the center of this absurd theater sits The Alchemist, treating the boards less like instruments he’s gently dusting for sonic fingerprints. His beats are dusty, loitering, slightly off-kilter, like a basement full of soul records slowly nodding in approval. The album doesn’t hit—you float into it, nudged by the air currents of meticulously crafted loops, while your head unconsciously nods like it knows the secret handshake of underground rap. Let’s dive into the crew: Tristate, Planet Asia, and Killer Ben, because while Alchemist is the gravity holding 360 Waves together, these three are the asteroids orbiting it—each with their own trajectory, and each capable of impact if you pay attention. Tristate is the calm tactician, moving through the murk of @alanthechemist loops like a cat burglar, @planetasiamedallions injects narrative weight, spitting dense bars with hunger and precision that contrasts beautifully with @iamtristate lazy cool. @killerben is the wildcard, dropping in like a rogue gust of wind that rattles the room in the best possible way. And then there’s the title: 360 Waves. “360” implies totality, a full rotation, no blind spots. “Waves” nods both to sound and hair culture, tying into the durag imagery. It feels like a full-circle experience: an album that washes over you in loops, bends space subtly, and leaves your living room slightly rearranged. In the end, 360 Waves isn’t flashy—it’s surreal, authoritative, and quietly hilarious.
