Just had a fantastic hour at @shacklewelle8 school with my brilliant pal and extraordinary art teacher @hanssen_anita The kids are learning about community and what it means to connect and collaborate, so to honour that feeling, they were asked to make an A5 poster with a message of positivity and then give it away to another classmate at the end. Although a couple were resistant to give away their beautiful artwork we encouraged them to make another for themselves. 😆 big love to my heroes the art teachersXX

We won, we won, we won the debate at parliament yesterday sponsored by @the__ipa and with my debating partner the incredible Karen Martin @bbhlondon @thelovelykaren We proposed the motion to make creativity mandatory in the curriculum and we received a resounded yes. It was so much fun and although the win doesn’t mean it becomes mandatory it is officially the start of the I am Creative movement to get this back on the agenda. Thankyou for asking me and for letting me do my speech with my flies down for the entire 8 minutes. 😆

Such an energetic session with the foundation course kids @ravensbourneuk thanks to @mattmcguinness and @fioandfio for bringing me in. In my opinion foundation courses would be mandatory, get kids thinking, drawing, scaling up their ideas, collaborating, designing on the hoof, lifting up their comrades. This project is prep for a live brief mural project they’re designing together for a school in south London. Big Kids painting messages of hope on a primary school wall for the kids below them. There’s something so beautiful about that process and message. Matt and Fiona had them fired up, getting down and dirty on the floor such a great vibe. #muralsofinstagram#messyplayideas #foundationcourses #collaborationart #painting

Thankyou to @designweekmag for publishing this piece about Creative education being at breaking point.
With the EBacc removed and government finally looking at reinstating arts education, this is a critical moment. Not for a sticking plaster — but for a proper revival.
In my view, this requires emergency action:
mandatory art rooms in every school, funded by the £15bn+ in tax generated by the creative industries, and real access to the Apprenticeship Levy for creative pathways.
We need learning rooted in empathy and making.
When students understand how things are made, they begin to believe they can remake the world.
Creative education isn’t a “nice to have”.
It’s the operating system for an uncertain future.
Are we brave enough to treat it that way?

Erica McEwan has worked across production, including roles supporting the art department — the team responsible for how a film or shoot looks and feels. From sets and props to colour, texture and detail, the art department builds the visual world of a story.
Today’s creative prompt is inspired by that process: create a moodboard for a room recreation. Think about atmosphere, references, materials, colour palettes and objects. How does the space tell a story before anyone even walks into it?

Thrilled to have a piece published in The Independent today on the state of the creative industries — Huge thanks to @vixterh for spotlighting the challenges and conversations the sector can’t afford to ignore.
So prompting a debate in parliament (that I've been invited to) I think it’s worth starting a conversation around what a new way of teaching arts and Creative learning in schools looks like? If we do get to design it from scratch then we need to make it radical, Bauhaus, Arts and Crafts, Black Mountain College were nearly a hundred years ago. This could be the time to really shape the future of learning for the next generation of creatives. Ideas on a postcard please and please share this far and wide. Link to full article in bio ^^^
