As a diploma ambassador, I, Danii, give you an insight into the process of my degree project in the BA Data Design + Art over the last two weeks. 📊🎨

So much stuff happened in the last two weeks! Since my brain needed a crafty break, I built the frames for my panels, which are a very important part of my installation. The panels are used to project my data onto.
After two fun days at the DFK metal workshop, I managed to build three frames that can hold my boards without a problem. Standing in front of these panels was an insane feeling! Everything is coming together.
I also managed to connect my iPad to my installation, which felt like a real milestone as well. I can now control my installation with my iPad.

Four weeks till the deadline, lots of time for testing and fine-tuning. I’m excited to experiment with colour and fonts and to do some user testing.

Immersive Mixed-Reality-Experiences ideenreich und überzeugend gestalten

Im Masterstudiengang «Digital Ideation» bringen Studierende ihre unterschiedlichen Fähigkeiten und Erfahrungen ein, explorieren neue Technologien und Vorgehensweisen und beschäftigen sich mit gesellschaftlich relevanten Fragestellungen.

Das «Connect Projekt» ermöglicht es den Master-Studierenden, zweimal jährlich im Rahmen eines zweiwöchigen Design Sprints kreative Ideen und Prototypen für externe Partner zu entwickeln. Ein Beispiel ist das «Connect Projekt» für das Federal Office of Topography swisstopo: Es sollten neue Lösungen für Mixed Reality Experiences im swisstopo geodataLab gefunden werden. Die Aufgaben des Bundesamts und die Vielfalt der Geodaten, die swisstopo zur Verfügung stellt, sollten für die Besucher erlebbar gemacht werden.

Insgesamt neun Studierende entwickelten gemeinsam mit dem Dozierenden Gregor Finger vielfältige kreative Prototypen für den Data Table und weitere Mixed Reality Experiences für das @swisstopo geodataLab — etwa dazu, wie Besucher via Flugzeug oder Schiff Daten für swistopo sammeln könnten, welche Bedeutung die Geodaten für einen Brückenbau haben, wie spielerisch mittels Handbewegungen oder mit Hilfe eines virtuellen Sandkastens Geländeformen in 3D-Daten gesucht werden könnten, bis hin zu interaktiven VR-Souvenirs.

Der Masterstudiengang «Digital Ideation» richtet sich an Designer und Entwickler, die über fundierte Kenntnisse in ihrem jeweiligen Fachgebiet verfügen und Technologien neu denken, interdisziplinär arbeiten sowie nachhaltige Innovationen schaffen möchten.

Als Werkschau-Botschafter gebe ich, Noah, euch Einblick in den Entstehungsprozess meiner Abschlussarbeit des BA Camera Arts.

In den letzten zwei Wochen habe ich mich auf die Weiterentwicklung meines Konzepts und den Dreh einer ersten Szene konzentriert Durch ein sehr hilfreiches Gespräch mit einem Mentor konnte ich mir ein klareres Bild davon machen, wie ich meine Arbeit angehen möchte, und zu dem zurückfinden, was ich wirklich tun will: ein Projekt, das einerseits sehr persönlich ist und gleichzeitig ein breites Publikum ansprechen kann.

Mein Projekt entspringt aus meiner Angst, Momente, die ich erlebe, zu vergessen. Diese Momente will ich mit der Dringlichkeit festhalten und wiedergeben, die ich darin fühle, diese Momente nicht zu vergessen.

Ich konnte meine erste Szene leider noch nicht mit Personen drehen, habe aber einen ersten Testdreh vor Ort gemacht, um mich mit dem Ort vertraut zu machen und mich bestmöglich auf den eigentlichen Dreh vorzubereiten. Hier präsentiere ich euch einige Stills aus diesem Testdreh.

From Lucerne to Valais: new rooms, new voices, the same questions approached from another angle.

Service Design students visited the Service Design Lab in Sierre on a study trip organised by co-lead Daniele Catalanotto and Service Design student Juliana Magalhães Cardoso, who also works at the lab and introduced its context.

In exchange with BA Tourism from HES-SO, participants mapped ideas and developed first prototypes, focusing on how concepts are tested in practice.
