This morning, the Harris County Houston Sports Authority and the FIFA World Cup Local Host Committee gave Mayor Whitmire and City Council a final report before the largest sporting event in the world takes place from June 11 - July 19, 2026.

A major international connection is returning to Houston ✈️ 🇻🇪

@United will resume nonstop daily service between Houston and Caracas, Venezuela, beginning Aug. 11, bringing back the route after nearly a decade.

“It reflects the importance of Houston’s international connections and economic ties across the globe,” said @houstonmayor John Whitmire.

Earlier today, a group of ducklings found themselves in a bit of trouble after falling into a storm drain.

Thankfully, BARC Animal Enforcement Officers responded quickly to the scene and called in the Houston Fire Department to help with the rescue efforts.

One by one, the ducklings were carefully lifted out while their very stressed mama duck waited nearby for her babies to return. Thanks to teamwork, patience, and a little determination, the whole family was reunited safely. 💜

Huge thank you to our Animal Enforcement Officers and our partners at @houston_fire for always showing up for Houston’s animals, no matter how small the emergency may be. 🐥

Unfortunately, mama duck could not be located nearby at the time of the rescue, so the ducklings were transported to the ASPCA Wildlife Center where they’ll receive the care they need from wildlife professionals, and hopefully be reunited with mom. 🦆

We honored the descendants of the buriedand recognized the neighbors who worked hard to preserve and care for this once-neglected site—protecting an important piece of Houston’s history for generations to come.
