Today on Transgender Day of Remembrance we remember and honour trans+ people who have been taken away from us because of systems that are inherently violent towards us and which enable and encourage violence towards us. It is heartbreaking and infuriating that since last TDOR in 2024, 326 more lives have been brutally taken. This is a reflection of the time we’re living in and how for a lot of trans+ people, it’s a fucking struggle just to be alive right now.

The constant debate over our existence, retraction of rights to be in public spaces, and support for people actively working to take away our rights (looking at you JK Rowling) is more exhausting than ever. Especially for people part of other marginalised groups who also face oppression and violence from the systems that exist in this country. And that’s just in the UK - just a glance over the list of people we have lost this year will show you that most lives lost have been in countries where it is much riskier and deadlier to be trans+. The bravery it must have taken to fight to exist as their true selves. They should not have had to fight and be brave.

Now is the time more than ever to show up for the trans community. If you’re already speaking up, great but awareness is not enough. Put your money where your mouth is- buy from trans+ creators, hire trans+ people, go to demos, donate money or time to organisations, mutual aid funds and personal healthcare fundraisers. Check in personally on your trans+ friends and community and LISTEN to them, really listen. Stand up to oppression in all its forms- all our fights are connected!! Do fucking something, and remember it doesn’t have to be perfect.

HELLO 1,000 FISTERS!! It’s about time we introduced ourselves...

We are HISSY FIST: queer, unapologetic and full of seething RAGE. We make music to fight against fascism, bigotry and oppression. The current systems are failing, but we believe things can be better and we want to channel hope for the future through our ethereal harmonies, nasty dirty riffs and stomping tribal beats.

We feel such pure joyful, strength and playful magic when we get to perform - we feel so alive and connected to each other and our community. Our music allows us to explore softness and vulnerability alongside fury. There is strength in softness and we want to explore that within the loud, crashing chaos! It allows us to process pain both collective and individual, create connection and feel euphoria.

Come on this journey with us, we are more powerful together. None are free untill all are free.

@marrrged had the most haunting full body goosebump inducing voice and such a beautiful joyous energy! Strength and softness was the order of the night!

WE LOVE PIEHOUSE!! We love when we get to play in local community spaces and get to see the radical acts of community amidst gentrification and commodification of third spaces. KEEP OUR INDEPENDENT CO-OP VENUES GOING, WE NEED THEM!!! Go and buy a T-shirt from them, a pie, or a pint!
