I don’t know how to do this for social media in the grief but maybe it helps. I want to honor Celeste, my friend, a comrade, incredible painter generous fellow artist/thinker/spirit who worked, like so many of us, right at the edge of abyss. Celeste, like so many also have, felt the extraordinariness of the unbearable. and of course in the darkest dark she had a wildly powerful light, too bright for the world, running hot over sleepless days and nights painting without rest, in busy relations with spirit worlds, traveling in and out of history, a voracious reader and keeper of facts, images and tableaus formed faster than she could paint them, anchored by music, spirituality, curiosity and a fully embodied antifascism. I’m so deeply grateful for the connection we had in this part of things, on earth. we talked mostly about painting, rocks, spirit and politics. we talked through an entire genocide while the art world we work in stayed grossly silent. we were hounded by artworld Z10nists for speaking out for Pal3stine and it should be known that those people doggedly harassed, doxxed and attacked Celeste publicly for being an anti-Z10nist J3w with clear and principled political morals. This hate added exponential stress to her life and we processed through a lot of it sharing the grief of the genocide and the shock of the majority of the art world’s silence, censorship and complicity. Solidarity is love. Amidst her cats and fish and plants she made small dioramas of the resistance, shared quietly at home, a way to work through things. She was always working through the world, letting the world work through her. And that is the best way to work and also the hardest. I offer love to her closest people. I take some comfort in knowing the spirit relations she developed here in the world are now her trusted ushers into the next world. This loss hurts a lot. The artists know what this feels like.
The last slide is a drawing I made after one of my visits to her studio.
Check @jeffreydeitchgallery for status of her show scheduled to open April 17. Works she made throughout the genocide, fearless and unflinching witness. I love u homey wherever u are see u there someday.

Iranians are out en mass putting their lives on the line at power plants and bridges. USians could go en mass to airports and ports to stop commerce, inconvenience systems at least to demand this government stop the slaughter. Will we stay home on our phones until the chickens come home to roost?

Justice for Idris Robinson. His tenure contact canceled by Texas State U. Buy his book, support his struggle against the university censorship. This bodes badly for everyone.

Gonna migrate over to Upscrolled. Hoping it grows and we can stop relying on fascists like Zuckerberg/Meta, Ellison/TikToK, Musk/X for getting and sharing real uncensored news, as they ramp up the clamp down on information, surveillance, capture and murd3r ✌️ very curious is m3t4 will censor this post, hit like please so we can see if it’s reaching thanks
