Every summer, we go out to hand harvest our oat tops. There is a brief week long window where this plant produces a rich milky sap before going to seed, and this fresh milk is highly nutritious while also restoring the nerves and improving and preserving dopamine levels, which is incredibly helpful for managing feelings of anxiety, dread or exhaustion. In this sick modern world we can use all the help we can get. I recently came across a pamphlet from the 1880’s citing a tincture of fresh milky oat as an effective treatment for opiate addiction. It’s my opinion that milky oat is best taken in a tincture form, as the fresh milk itself can be greatly concentrated and preserved in alcohol. You can find it as the main ingredient in our ‘Quiet Place’ formula.

We are excited to announce Arnold Schroder’s Portland book release gathering on June 5th.
Arnold Schroder will do a talk and participatory workshop based on his book Fight Like An Animal: Revolutionary Biology in Defense of Life at Hedgerow Herb Co. in Portland. We’ll spend the first 45 minutes on a whirlwind tour of the book’s core ideas: that we must understand the biology of behavior to understand social change processes, and that thinking in terms of human psychological difference gives us more agency than political theories that avoid this subject. Then, we’ll spend the next 45 minutes testing this claim together, in a spontaneous strategy session with a crowd-sourced theme and objective, using the tools the book provides. Beverage services will be offered by our gracious hosts and friends at @hedgerowherbco this evening!
Additionally, we will also be participating in Hedgerow Herb Co’s summer market the following day from 12-6pm! Flier design by Heron. Photo taken by Kelly at the Aktivt Forsvart Sone occupation in Hurummarka, Norway (see previous post for info).

I like to pick Nettle with bare hands. it makes me feel tough. It’s also very good for circulation. Nettle can be harvested through April until May, when the Devil weaves his shirt of them.
This herb is highly nutritive and has been consumed by humans since at least the Bronze Age. Our ancient ancestors from Europe, temperate Asia, and Northern Africa most certainly ate nettle in the Spring, the hungriest time of year. (Nettles can now be found worldwide) Nettle is an abundant wild food source when we don’t douse it in glyphosate.
Our bellies may be full but most of us today still lack essential nutrients and minerals. This herb will perk you up when you are feeling weak and also acts as a very effective antihistamine, easing symptoms of seasonal allergies. We have a very effective tincture and tea blend for this purpose, which includes a great deal of locally farmed Nettle.
I find that my hair tends to grow much faster in the Spring, as I tend to consume a great deal of Nettle this time of year, fresh and dried in most of my meals. If you are exhausted or worried about hair loss you should be incorporating this herb on the daily. Nourishing broths, soups, pastas, hot or iced tea, the list goes on. Right now I am all about this Nettle cheese from @providorepdx

The cottonwood tree is part of the Salinacea family, which includes aspens and willows. All of the Populus species contain varying amounts of salicin and poplin, the precursors of aspirin that are anti-inflammatory. You can find cottonwood as the primary ingredient in our 𝐏𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐄𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐒𝐚𝐥𝐯𝐞.
