It’s the honor of my life to be a part of the beautiful convening that is In Minor Keys, by Koyo Kouoh, exhibiting works from my ongoing project Observatorio de Lagunas in the Venetian Lagoon.

I’ve never been prouder to be in a show or in a group of artists. I’m still amazed that at the interior of this monumental art event it was possible to experience tender humanity, fierce solidarity and complicity that would give me a new sense of value in what I do, despite the swamp we labor in.

This is in no small part thanks to the titanic work of beloveds @rashasalti @siddharthamitter @westvirginiababy @gabefeijoo and @neneperei who carried forward a curatorial project guided by deep love for our dead and reverence for dignified life.

Grief work is memory work, community work and political work. It has the power to make us brave, bring us together, tune out the noise and access the core of human experience. Koyo is everywhere, and her spirit has led us all, even those like me who only met her through the love of her friends. My grandmother Maria Luisa is here too; her empty home in Levittown is layered with the history in the walls of the Arsenale. Palestine is here too; the memory of its martyrs and its glorious resistance anchoring us through action, presence and the vibrancy of a chorus of drones. Thank you for letting me carry your name and your work, @duaa.qishta, it was an honor.

That I would be one of the first Puerto Rican women participating in the central exhibition of the Venice Biennale alongside my dearest @natalialassallem and @gmorillo2010 is unthinkable. Tácticas de transmisión es la primera conferencia performativa de su proyecto, fue presentada en Vera List Center Conference en 2024. Además, presentó el video "Un montón de silencios" (2025), un documental experimental de 24 minutos que reflexiona sobre el robo de Águila Blanca de 1983, la migración puertorriqueña a Nueva Inglaterra y las formas en que la memoria, la ausencia y el silencio configuran la historia.

En ~ Arte camita ~ / ~ Jangueo flotante ~ / ~ Habitar el naufragio ~ (2025), Sofía propuso una zona de jangueo flotante con balsas que evocan salvavidas identificados con nombres de barcos de la Marina de Guerra de Estados Unidos, invitando al público a imaginar un Caribe desmilitarizado desde el descanso y el vaivén del mar. Además, presentó el video "Un montón de silencios" (2025), un documental experimental de 24 minutos que reflexiona sobre el robo de Águila Blanca de 1983, la migración puertorriqueña a Nueva Inglaterra y las formas en que la memoria, la ausencia y el silencio configuran la historia.

Es un orgullo enorme participar junto a @natalialassallem y @gmorillo2010 como las primeras mujeres boricuas en la exhibición central. Es aún más especial hacerlo en compañía del maestro @daniel_lind_ramos .

El texto curatorial de esta edición titulada ‘In Minor Keys’ o ‘en escalas menores’ es una defensa hermosa de la importancia de las escalas pequeñas en las que vivimos, nos relacionamos, creamos y luchamos en las islas y fuera de los centros del poder global. Estoy bien conmovida de ser incluida bajo estas coordenadas, por un equipo curatorial brillante, en compañía de artistas que admiro y en celebración de la memoria de Koyo, a quien desafortunadamente sólo he podido conocer luego de su muerte.
