Coach House Kitchen and Stable Yard businesses will remain open as usual.

Monitoring is key. Last year, moth trapping across the Estate revealed an incredible variety of species - diverse in size, appearance, and evolutionary history. It was a useful reminder of the richness present, and how much there is still to learn.

Bird ringing, carried out on the Estate over a number of years, serves a similar purpose: building a long-term record of how populations here are changing. 🐦

Explore Old Hatfield's new heart on Saturday 13th June. 💌

The regeneration of Salisbury Square is almost complete, and we're looking forward to welcoming our community to celebrate the launch of this new space to live, work, relax and meet.

Join us from 11am to 4pm for a day of live music, free children's activities, craft workshops, and food trucks, set around the new community green space and play area. Visitors can also collect a pass on the day allowing free entry to Hatfield Park and Gardens.

Additionally, the Old Hatfield Market returns to The Stable Yard on Saturday and Sunday, 14th June, 10am-5pm - a wonderful chance to explore an eclectic mix of independent local businesses.

Discover a wonderful mix of local traders, including butchers, fishmongers, fresh fruit and vegetables, honey, chutneys, olives, cheeses, bread, cakes, crafts and more, all in the vibrant setting of Salisbury Square, the new heart of Old Hatfield. 🥕🧀

To launch this new market, we are working in partnership with The Hertfordshire Barrow Boy, a fourth-generation family business with over 75 years of experience. Beginning in the markets of Holborn and Russell Square, they now operate farmers markets across Hertfordshire.

There's always more to find in Hatfield House Archives...

A 17th-century portrait of the Cecil children (James, 4th Earl of Salisbury, and his sister Katherine) returned to Hatfield House last October following a significant conservation project - which revealed something unexpected!

The painting is by John Michael Wright, one of the pre-eminent British painters of his generation, and hidden behind an old lining on the back of the canvas was a previously unknown signature and date in Wright's own hand!

A painting completed over 300 years ago, and it still had secrets to share. 🎨

Built in 1842 by the second Marquess of Salisbury, the court was used exclusively by the Cecil family for nearly 100 years until the outbreak of war in 1939. It was revived in 1955 when local players reopened it, and today it's a thriving club hosting local leagues and major tournaments.

Real Tennis is the original racquet sport from which lawn tennis was born, descending from the medieval game jeu de paume (game of the palm). It's played on an indoor court with four irregularly sized walls, using pear-shaped racquets and cloth balls harder than a regular tennis ball.
