I am over the moon to finally be able to share the trailer for my latest short documentary, 'Der Veg Abhaile - The Way Home', which has literally just premiered in the Samuel Bak Museum in Vilnius, Lithuania this evening! The film is part of a wider exhibition of the same name from Jewish Arts and Culture Ireland, supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs.

I’ve been totally wrapped up in this project all year, and I’m still pinching myself because I got to collaborate with some of my film making idols - both director Lenny Abrahamson (who not only featured in the film but was also wealth of advice and knowledge) and composer Stephen Rennicks (who created the most stunning score for the film).

This documentary is really personal. I am delighted to have been offered the opportunity to explore the intersection of Irish Jewish identity and artistic practice through the lens of 5 really wonderful artists, and a historian, who I’m appreciative to have worked with and to have had them share their internal musings with me. The film is an examination of the ways in which we grapple with our identity through art — in particular, those of us whose identities have been shaped by migration.

This project has also been a sobering reminder of the importance and urgency of fighting against anti-immigrant sentiment, intolerance, and racism that has become increasingly more visible in today's Ireland. Our beautiful country is enriched by diversity, which we must embrace - whether people have come here by choice or, increasingly, because they had to.

What a year! This showreel gave me the chance to reflect a lot on everything I’ve learnt this year and the sheer variety of projects I got to work on. I set out in 2024 with the goal of learning by doing — taking opportunities, making loads of stuff, and learning as much as I possibly could. I’d say it was an overwhelming success!

First and foremost, @fgillesp and I launched our collaborative project @greenergrassfilms which has been amazing because we’re such close friends AND we work so well together! Such a dream!

I really got to expand my work as a documentarian. I made my first ever funded documentary about my heritage with @jaciartsandculture alongside my idols Lenny Abrahamson and Stephen Rennicks which was absolutely insane and went to Lithuania with it! I went to Venice with Eimear Walshe @eim.jpg to shoot a documentary at the Venice Biennale, which was mad exciting and inspiring and politically motivating. I’ve met new people who’s lives have totally changed my perspective on the world. I’ve many many other documentary projects sitting on hard drives unfinished which have been equally exciting and inspiring that I can’t wait to put out into the world.

I also worked a lot with musicians this year which has been fantastic — I’ve made music videos and shot live sets, and even had a music video screened in the IFI with @gazefilmfest and in @onefluidnight London!

It’s the first year that I feel I’ve really began to cultivate a style to my work, and have found that my love for the Irish landscape has seeped into my work in a big way.

The music video for 'Remember' by @laura.ampersand is out now!

The concept for this video was born out of a combination of my overwhelming feeling that a boat needed to feature in the video,Laura's question of "what if Mayo had it's own Bermuda Triangle conspiracy?" and the concept of retracing your life in the moment of death.

We shot it over a few days in the depths of winter in Belmullet and we all came away from it with a ranging flu!

Visually I was really interested in playing with scale, and juxtaposing these big powerful dance moves with the architecture of the coastline, portraying Laura as both big and small within the space. Ive been really enjoying shooting a bit more dance this year and I'm starting to see some influences of other dance directors come through in my own shooting and editing style.
