Feeling inspired by the Bouquets to Arts Exhibition yesterday at the @deyoungmuseum in SF. I feel like this could have been a Dutch painting. Also, two things are always true- 1. Many here may not know me so much on a personal level as they do a designer. But I want to share something special and personal to my family and I that has always impacted us individually, and also specifically the way I show up here in the floral world.

My beautiful grandmother- Lola, to us- made it to her heavenly realm several weeks ago. It’s taken some time to process, grieve, and become used to a daily life without her. She was such a part of our rituals, especially towards the end of her life. We shared meals of rice and Tinola, drives along Silverado Trail together, and daily walks in her garden with all of the kids.

Even more so now, I love talking about her. I always find myself bringing her up in conversation, or just reveling in the magic and wisdom she instilled in us. Always she was our leader and matriarch in our islander family, but even more to me she was a guide and someone I often turned to for feedback, advice, or encouragement. She was always business minded. She is the reason my family is here and thriving in the U.S. and specifically Napa Valley. She was bold, fearless, and knew when to take risk. She worked harder than any person I know. She brought her five boys alone across the world from the Philippines to America to meet my Papa after being apart for years. She commuted every other week from L.A. to Napa between her multiple businesses well into her 70’s. She often pushed me to do it. To work hard, and not complain. To make a business for myself, and to keep dreaming. She taught me to be prudent with money, and hold integrity within business as morally high. When I first started doing flowers, and also had multiple little ones, she would often ride along in the car when I had to do deliveries, and stay with the kids and feed them snacks and keep them quiet at high end venues. She would always treat us afterwards to French fries or Bouchon pastries.

Many here may not know me so much on a personal level as they do a designer. But I want to share something special and personal to my family and I that has always impacted us individually, and also specifically the way I show up here in the floral world.

My beautiful grandmother- Lola, to us- made it to her heavenly realm several weeks ago. It’s taken some time to process, grieve, and become used to a daily life without her. She was such a part of our rituals, especially towards the end of her life. We shared meals of rice and Tinola, drives along Silverado Trail together, and daily walks in her garden with all of the kids.

Even more so now, I love talking about her. I always find myself bringing her up in conversation, or just reveling in the magic and wisdom she instilled in us. Always she was our leader and matriarch in our islander family, but even more to me she was a guide and someone I often turned to for feedback, advice, or encouragement. She was always business minded. She is the reason my family is here and thriving in the U.S. and specifically Napa Valley. She was bold, fearless, and knew when to take risk. She worked harder than any person I know. She brought her five boys alone across the world from the Philippines to America to meet my Papa after being apart for years. She commuted every other week from L.A. to Napa between her multiple businesses well into her 70’s. She often pushed me to do it. To work hard, and not complain. To make a business for myself, and to keep dreaming. She taught me to be prudent with money, and hold integrity within business as morally high. INDIGO floral design! My creative 7 year old daughter, Indigo, will be offering a Valentine’s Day preorder for flower arrangements! She has grown up in the studio and around flowers her entire life and has recently taken an interest in arranging and design! I often catch her going through old stems in the garbage and extra flowers that fall behind me and creating something of her own. Those who know Indigo all agree that one day she will likely either be a business CEO or ruler of a small country— she has tenacity, determination, and a wild, beautiful imagination!

Shot a little creative film with my friend @stevenbaileytv this summer! This year has naturally brought out some really spectacular opportunities to design in ways that felt so innate and grounding. Really grateful to be able to do creative things like this- just because we can. Steven captured everything mg so beautifully, and with full creative freedom! Cannot express how talented he is!
