now ain’t the time to dance around language and choose the kumbayah route. wake the fuck up. all of this is connected, all oppression is connected. every racist joke, every misogynistic comment, every time ur wonky uncle expresses his hot take at christmas. it’s all the same regurgitated colonialist patriarchal vomit, showing itself at every chance it gets, living and breathing in the minds of a lot of people, in the media, everywhere u look. when you see it gyrating amongst a group of uglies or feel it breathing down ur neck, do something, call it out, make an example and end it. it needs to fucking stop. BE FUCKIN LOUD ABOUT DESTROYING WHITE SUPREMACY AND THE HATE IT BREEDS.

Cater 2 U and Misc join forces once again to bring the duo of the millenium - HALF QUEEN AND STATE OFFF, debuting their new project HALF OFFF with an extended 3 hour set in the hallowed halls of Miscellania.

HALF OFFF is the love child of Aotearoa scene mother Half Queen and Zimbabwe-born, Amsterdam based State OFFF. The duo have formed a sonic dialogue between two hemispheres, combining low end pressure, percussive rhythms and global references to make an immersive and hypnotic sound.

State OFFF takes Durban’s Gqom, São Paulo’s funk, Baltimore club and welds them to 3 step and afrotech to form something new that’s heavy, urgent, entirely his own. Named by Mixmag as a ‘producer that defined 2025’, he’s collaborated with Bambii, DJ Lag, Miss Jay + more.

Half Queen spins fresh, rhythm-driven cuts with no boundaries. In a HALFQUEEN set you might hear RnB, gqom, and ballroom tracks woven through baile funk, reggaeton, and UK bass sounds. Her sets are energetic and unpredictable, and rooted in the lived experience of her Fijian and Päkehã bloodlines.

Supported by an unbelievable lineup of exclusively Black and Indigenous DJs, pioneers and up and comers;
SOJU GANG
NEGASSA X TENDAI
TIAKI
NICHOLAS CURRIE
IBSTA B2B BAKRI

Starting early from the roof, with a bbq, drink specials (henny), and music with lyrics. Mob and TWoC Free ALWAYS and Early Entry tix available. Poster by the incredible @goldstank__

the likelihood of this reaching the people it needs to is perhaps quite low, but if you’re reading this then maybe it’s for you. (i’m gonna platform this kaupapa once on this timeline) ★ for a while i’ve felt something missing from tāmaki nightlife (i know u have too) … a (s)pacific club experience - kinda like the clubs i’ve had the pleasure of playing elsewhere, and not unlike moments i’ve experienced right here at home. something in the middle, (s)pacifically us. even at FILTH i’ve felt a strong shift in my experience of it + the intention. so i’ve been dreaming up n down how to manifest this feeling + space within our context + means. how to build a new portal to the old way… and so here i have this offering, an attempt/experiment/expression called SUBVERSE, to fulfill that need for a << dancefloor/space >> dancer/dj/sound/space/light/dark led, playful, sexy and joyful, drenched in honouring the lineage of clubbing, and very much (eventually + undeniably) offline. a vital 3rd space to charge up and ready ur body/mind/spirit for the outside, for real. no presales, no lineup drop, no announcement plan, no cameras - just a fuckin dark loud sexy smokey club. you arrive intentionally, you trust yourself + the space, and you are open to participate. this saturday is the 1st iteration of this co-creation. if you’ve been wanting a space to shake your ass, find new pathways, listen and dance to BODY MUSIC, we got you. see u on the dancefloor !!!! for the love of the CLUB !!!!!! welcome to the SUBVERSE !!!!!! trust me xxxx ★

“Hard times require furious dancing. Each of us is the proof.” - Alice Walker

That’s the quote chosen to accompany this instalment of The Mix from @half.queen, Aotearoa’s premier dancefloor energiser and righteous advocate of all that the culture should stand for. She’s a needle-moving influence on the dance music landscape in her home nation, also known as New Zealand. Behind the decks, she turns clubs upside down with a dark and charged blend of propulsive sounds from across the globe. Beyond the decks, she’s a firm and uncompromising voice for resistance and liberation in various forms.

Though raised in the remote pacific nation, HALFQUEEN’s approach is an antidote to notions of isolation, drawing inspiration from an international array of sounds — including gqom, footwork, Jersey club and techno — and stitching those threads into a storytelling sets that cause and reflect connections, both sonic and cultural. The club night FILTH she launched in 2018 with JessB was forged from a need to explore those links and tap into a wider sense of connection, and has grown into a pivotal party in her hometown of Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland.

In recent years the wider world has duly taken notice, with HALFQUEEN touring the world. She’s also fresh off debuting HALF OFFF, a collaborative project with @stateofff___, via @carouselseoul. The single, ‘Big Choon’, is a mighty combination of raw bass-loaded power and more slippery percussive rhythms.

The track features in her instalment of The Mix, which she describes as a “sonic layering to arm and balm”.

Halfqueen picks five tracks where queer energy, peak-time heat, and bass weight collide.

These selections hit like a night where the dancefloor knows exactly what it came for. Halfqueen pulls from her own collaborative output, Tāmaki’s bass scene, and legendary underground link-ups that prove some artists are just permanently wired into club culture’s DNA. No filler, no apologies, just filth.

Catch Halfqueen alongside lagoon and Rydeen this Saturday 28th February at Club 77 from 8pm til 5am.

🎟 Free on guest list before midnight, $35 after

👉 Early bird tickets via RA
