Our Year 4 Work in Progress exhibition is now open to the public. Featuring Knitted, Woven, Printed and Embroidered textiles from our @gsatextiles26 cohort. No booking required.

Launching our Yr3 Textiles for the Body project supported by @bernatklein foundation.
Our students have been charged with heading up the design team responsible for re-establishing Colourcraft; Bernat Klein’s textile company originally established in the 1950s. Their role in this project is to challenge the sameness of mass produced, globalised fashion brands and create something unique and textile-led. A focus on colour and materials should still be central to the new company ethos - but who are the new customers and how do they bring their own design style to this new textile collection that reflects both historical understanding while also addressing contemporary issues of sustainability?
Thanks to @lynsey_calder_wip, trustee of the foundation who introduced Bernat’s work to our students. @gsatextiles27

Undertaken within the first semester of Year 1, the Drawing Beginnings project requires close observation of the four specialisms within the Textiles programme- print, weave, knit and embroidery. This project explores drawing as a fundamental practice in textile design. The project began with an exploration of mark-making, using conventional and experimental tools.
Then, through a series of observational drawings at varying scales, students translated the intricate structures, colours, and textures of these fabrics, revealing a deeper understanding of their construction and character.
To conclude the project, students reflected on their experiences and observations.
