Happy birthday to @room303radio 🥳
In the spring of 2024, @milo__nx and I of @ishinoko.jp and Yosuke of @wpushinjuku dreamt of a community radio station for Tokyo. In a city brimming with music culture we couldn’t quite understand why a space like this didn’t exist yet and so, against our potential better judgement, we decided to find out - spurred on by our community at ishinoko festival and inspired by our favourite stations in London and around the world. We wanted to see what could be created in Tokyo, home of so many sounds, events, musicians and producers, and the starting and end point for most visiting artists to Japan.
We began with test broadcasts and small gatherings through the summer, leading to our official launch on August 24th. One year on from then, we’ve broadcast over 400 shows and welcomed artists and hosts from across Japan and the world. What began sporadically has now become a consistent 7-day-a-week, 6-hour program coordinated by our dedicated team.
Our growth is moderate but steady, we remain committed to sharing the variety of sounds across Japan and building a space where music culture can exchange and flourish - knowing our long-term success will be measured not in numbers, but in the strength of the community around it.
We’ve been fortunate to find a home for this project in WPÜ Shinjuku, and to have a team who share this passion and vision. Thank you to all our staff, volunteers, hosts, artists, designers, advisors, friends, supporters and everyone who has given their time and energy to bring this project to life <3
Photos and videos from throughout the year - some memorable moments for me and some of my personal favourite shows. @nekomafia_ @pcovocq @lil_clart @ntski @kill.klover @fullhouse.jpn @beanisley and everyone I may have missed - thank you 🙇
