Two years ago, my best friend — my older brother John — experienced a psychotic break during a manic episode. It was, without a doubt, the hardest experience I’ve ever lived through. Writing this song was equally the hardest and most vulnerable song I’ve ever written — but through it, I found healing for everything me and my family went through.
Even more importantly, it helped John and me find healing with each other.
John will always be my best friend.
I hope this song reaches you in some way. If you’ve ever struggled with mental illness yourself, or walked alongside a family member or loved one through it, my hope is that this song brings you even a small piece of the healing it gave us.

for those who know me personally, you already know some of what happened. for those who don’t, this song was my way of healing and finding freedom from the pain our family endured.
there wasn’t a guidebook for how to handle manic episodes and support a family member going through them. we were all just trying to figure it out together. my intention with this song is to let anyone going through something similar know that you’re not alone and that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
