This happened when The Botanist stopped buying SKU-by-SKU:

Most retailers do not realize how much cash gets trapped in inventory until they finally get visibility into what is actually happening.

This is what happened with The Botanist.

After restructuring their buying operation and implementing Happy Buyers, the company started generating cash before vendor payments were even due.

The team also uncovered that its previous spreadsheet-driven, SKU-by-SKU replenishment process was overbuying inventory by at least 25%.

Inside the case study:
- Results The Botanist achieved by centralized purchasing across 11 stores
- Why spreadsheet replenishment was causing overbuying
- How Product Lines changed assortment decisions
- The operational changes that improved inventory flow and cash management
- How the team built a dedicated buying function with better visibility and control

We know we struck a chord with our new Orders feature when our live demo on Wednesday was the most demanded recording we've ever done afterwards.

So you'll definitely want to see this.

Most retailers don’t actually have a centralized order management system.

Orders live across texts, emails, PDFs, spreadsheets, LeafLink, and conversations with vendors. By the time products arrive at the store, buyers are often trying to reconstruct what was actually ordered, what changed, and what slipped through the cracks.

We just released Orders inside Happy Buyers to solve exactly that problem.

You can see it in action yourself on a live demo (just go to our website to get one) or watch the video using link in bio of our live demo of Orders.

The live demo session showcased:
- Building smarter orders with inventory data
- Sending vendor-ready orders directly from the platform
- Sharing live inventory visibility with vendors
- Tracking every submitted order in one place
- Managing substitutions, receiving, and reconciliation

If ordering is still fragmented across your operation, this is worth the watch.

"Finally an order system that actually matches how we work."

One of the biggest things we hear from retail teams is that ordering doesn’t actually happen in one system.

It happens across texts from vendors, emailed spreadsheets, PDFs, inventory reports, and a lot of copy and paste.

That’s exactly why we built Orders in Happy Buyers.

On May 20th, we’re doing a live walkthrough of the full workflow, from building orders to sending them to vendors to tracking every order in one place.

Register using the link in bio.

Along the way, we’ll show features retailers are responding to with actual comments like:

“This is everything I could have dreamed of.”
“No notes.”

All these quotes are direct from conversations with our customers.

In this session, you’ll see how teams are:

- Organizing every order in a centralized workspace
- Sharing live inventory visibility with vendors instead of static PDFs
- Building smarter orders at the product-line level
- Reducing the back-and-forth that slows down purchasing

The presentation will be short and practical, with most of the session focused on the live demo itself. There will be time for Q&A so you can ask any questions you have about how it works.

We pulled a short clip from our recent conversation with @conbudny that’s worth two minutes of your time.

In it, @cossmarte, the CEO, walks through why so many retailers struggle to stay on track operationally. It comes down to how inventory is managed, how decisions get made, and where things start to slip.

It’s a quick watch, but it hits on a few things we see often:
- Taking on too much inventory
- Not having a clear view of what’s moving
- Letting small issues compound over time

If you’re responsible for buying or inventory, this will sound familiar.

We’re going live on Wednesday! Link in bio.

If you’ve been meaning to join one of these sessions, this is a good one to catch.

We’ll be talking with the team at @conbudny, one of the most well-known operators in New York, and for the first time in this series you’ll hear from both the buyer and the CEO in the same conversation.

Peter Mercado runs purchasing.
@cossmarte runs the business.

You’ll hear how those two viewpoints come together when it comes to decisions that affect inventory, cash, and what actually makes it onto the shelf.

The conversation will stay grounded in how things work in practice. What gets prioritized. What gets pushed back on. How they think through tradeoffs when things are not clear.

It’s a format we’ve found works well. A real discussion, then time at the end to ask questions.

Wednesday, April 29th
2:00–3:00 PM ET

If you want to join live, you can register in the link in bio.

420 changes your numbers. Plan for what comes after. Blockout dates that skew your data.

420 is around the corner, and most teams are focused on driving as much revenue as possible. Promotions are set, inventory is moving, and the goal is to make the most of the spike.

What often gets missed is what happens to your data afterward.

A few high-volume days can carry into your run rates and make it harder to understand true demand once things return to normal. That shows up later in the form of inflated reorder quantities, overbuying, and uncertainty around what’s actually performing.

There’s a simple way to avoid that.

We put together a short post on using Blockout Dates in Happy Buyers to keep your data clean before the spike happens. Setting this up ahead of time means your post-420 decisions are based on normal demand, not temporary surges.

Read the full post (link in bio)

If you want to put it into practice, you can start now. Set your Blockout Dates before 420 hits, and your data will already be in a good place when things settle.

If you're not already using Happy Buyers, sign up today to connect your live store data during our free trial and be ready for better reordering after the holiday.

To start your 14 day free trial, also click the link in bio.

It’s a small step that makes a big difference once the rush is over.

How retail buyers end up ordering 4× too much inventory in under 2 minutes:

There’s a very specific mistake that causes buyers to order far more inventory than they actually need.

It usually starts with good intent.

You pull your last 30 days of sales and look at how different products or strains performed. You see multiple SKUs selling and add them together to estimate demand.

The problem is that those products often didn’t sell at the same time. They rotated.

One SKU sells for a period, then it runs out. Another replaces it. Then another. When you look back at the data, it looks like all of them were contributing to demand together, but they were actually taking turns.

That creates a distorted view of demand.

What might look like 8 units per day can actually be closer to 2. If you order against that inflated number, inventory builds quickly and quietly.

This is one of the most common reasons we see overstock in retail. It leads to more SKUs on the shelf, slower turns, and more discounting than expected.

We put together a short 2 minute clip that walks through this with a simple example.

Curious how others are accounting for this in their buying process.
