2019 throwback winter selfie — when I was brave enough to be in it. 2026: behind laptop coddled by space heater.

Come hang and see art tonight!
@thehoosacinstitute is celebrating the launch of ISSUE 16 at @jamesgallerygc on Tuesday, February 3, 6:30-8 pm.
I met artist and Director of The Hoosac Institute, Jenny Perlin (@twilight_arc), seven years ago, shortly after ISSUE 1 launched — a labor of love funded out-of-pocket by Jenny, who shared, “...well, my pockets are kind of full of lint most of the time.” We collaborated on creating a digital archive for an ever-growing art collection that doesn’t fit conventional disciplinary narratives.
15 issues later, The Hoosac Institute Journal is going strong.

The Hoosac Institute is a platform for text and image, focusing on works that don’t fit conventional disciplinary narratives. Founded in 1970 in Williamstown, Massachusetts, The Hoosac Institute was dormant for nearly 50 years. The Institute was revived and restored in 2018 by Jenny Perlin (@twilight_arc) in an effort to open drawers, shine lights, and reshuffle categories.

@thirdplacezine Issue 2: Movement Building OUT NOW
—
I interviewed @annaoxygen & @bandinthailand for Third Place Zine’s “Movement Building” issue to commemorate the formative spaces and communities that’ve shaped their creative careers.
It had been a minute since I worked on a print piece (now print is sexier than ever), and I’m grateful for this opportunity to dive deep in conversation with artists I’ve admired for nearly two decades who are still creating fervently.
Be on the lookout for a fun cameo appearance of Joe Ahearn in the love note 💌 to Silent Barn. Joe is the co-founder & CEO of @withfriends_events, a platform spotlighting and supporting third places in several cities across the U.S. (Fun fact!: Joe and I worked at Brooklyn DIY shows organized by @todd_patrick back in the late ‘00s.)
Thanks, @thirdplacezine, for your call-for-pitches on movement building as defined by “the building of movements, and the buildings where people move” — for reminding us that community and care can live within, as well as beyond physical spaces. And @xanderopiyo for your amazing designs and collaboration in bringing the pieces to life.
Shout out to @secret_riso_club & @genderfail for your dedication to helping print survive and thrive. Thanks for the inspiring conversations at the launch party.

•
Hair by the talented @susanhable. Thanks to whoever the editors were at @glamourmag for green-lighting my candid street look and to the photographer who caught me in mid-whatever I was doing.

Happy birthday dear, sweet friend who’s always down for creative collaborations and art for humanity. Missing your warm, hairy bear hugs and the controversial sh*t you say and make that only you can get away with (while making me laugh).

It’s been four years, to the minute, since Oakland's Ghost Ship Warehouse fire where the world lost a group of incredibly passionate, loving and creative powerhouses. My former sweetheart, Edmond Lapine, was among one of those people. He loved fiercely and unconditionally, and showered me with kindness and affection. He set the gold standard for how to treat a lady.
•
We last spoke one week prior to the fire with us making plans for me to visit him in January. I missed him by a month, but made my way to Ghost Ship to pay my respects.
•
The photos here are from my summer 2009 trip to Olympia, WA; the Ghost Ship memorial on January 17, 2017 and December 2, 2020. (Thank you @shirabanana for making the trip to the memorial today when I couldn’t be there. Loving and missing you from the Other Coast.)
•
R.I.P. sweet friend and sweetheart, Edmond.
•
Evergreen State College has set up a Scholarship Fund for Edmond. In his honor, his mother Sami Long Kopelman and many of his friends and colleagues have created the Edmond William Lapine II Scholarship at The Evergreen State College Foundation, created to provide financial impetus for anyone deserving of a college education but lacking financial assistance. See link in bio.

January 2020 • One morning at a lovely Airbnb farm. Last trip before social distancing. • FUN FACT: It takes ~1 day for a chicken to lay 1 egg — and that’s on the higher end of egg production! Some lay only 2 a week. Be grateful for every egg you consume and how hard chickens work for us! #prequarantinevacation #farmlifevacay #tbttravels #whidbeyisland

This “secret project” I’ve been working on is no longer secret.
.
Still pretty punk. Still obsessively mindful of the details. Still excruciatingly careful with the craft. But more grown-up.
.
Introducing Mermaid Palace, @mermaidpalaceart, a company for audiocentric art, founded and directed by longtime friend, collaborator and creative genius @kaitlinprest of @theheartradio in community with friends and colleagues: Sharon Mashihi, Phoebe Unter, Nicole Kelly, Jen Ng, Mo Laborde, Allie Pinel, Rider Alsop, Mooj Zadie, Dylan Gauche, and many many more.
.
My collaboration with Kaitlin began in 2012 after we met at a WNYC mixer through my affiliation with @bbox_radio when @doruzi introduced me to Kaitlin, the host and creative director of Audio Smut — a podcast that got real intimate with topics about your heart, and your junk.
.
Instant crush at first meeting. I knew this woman had the power, talent, vision and follow-through to do amazing things in this lifetime and I made sure to track her down again before she left. We reconnected at the end of the event, followed by what was probably a 2-hour conversation in a cozy booth at the back of some Manhattan bar that was designed to look and feel like a “Brooklyn” bar. The world around us disappeared and at the end of the conversation, we made some plan to work together.
.
7 years later, we continue working together, challenging each other and continually pushing boundaries in audio and visual form, and our collaboration has allowed me to find a voice at the intersection of audio and branding/visual design. I am forever grateful of this ongoing relationship and the beautiful and talented community of artists I’ve met throughout the years from this collaboration. Kaitlin, you are Everything and more — of the powerful, visionary, whip-smart woman I pegged you to be at First Sight and Instant Crush. Thank you.
.
Here’s to many more years of working together.
