Creating a visual companion to Fiona Apple’s song “Valentine” had been in Norby’s @cino2k head for over a year. The past few months brought that desire to fruition with the February logo video. Finding a singular idea to go along with the 3:32 tune proved to be more difficult than anticipated. Concepts ranged from a pickup truck driven by ballerinas and clowns to an old man being pushed through the city in a hospital bed, yet nothing felt quite right. Time constraints demanded a logistically smaller production. Norby recommended listening to the song and eliminating any preconceived notions. This approach ultimately determined the visuals would be expressing themes of despair. A depressed lily would be the primary motif. Alejandro @cannedd67 brought up the use of diegetic music driving the short narrative, complementing Anthony’s @anthonytedle suggestion of the main character wearing headphones throughout. “All About Lily Chou-Chou” and the 2006 film “Stay” were tonal and visual references.
At Alejandro’s recommendation, Elissa Mendoza was brought on as the main character shortly before filming began. The last weekend of December. Moreover, the last weekend of 2024. Crosshairs set on a January logo video. Less than five days to brainstorm, schedule, shoot, edit, design the logo, and export. All we knew was that we wanted to use the opening song from BELLY: “Back to Life” by Soul II Soul. When our original account was taken down and this one created, the song’s title served as a slogan. Hence, [back2life] in the bio and being the song of choice for the first instagram story of this account. So stepping into 2025, this felt like the right decision.
On December 28th, @cino2k and @anthonytedle conceptualized the video. The narrow time frame meant keeping the idea simple but effective. Lighting the blunt, backlit leather jackets, and slow motion were BELLY motifs we wanted to borrow. With the lighting we wanted to play with darkness, gradients, and high contrast. A projector pointed at the subject would display clips of parties and fireworks. Taking off the leather jacket would capture the rough essence of rebirth. More than anything a shirtless torso would look good with the lighting setup in mind.
December 29th was the only night of shooting. All shot against one wall. Requiring only two tube lights and a projector to achieve the desired lighting setup. It was a crew of seven with several of us taking on multiple roles. Not uncommon for us to do on a project of this scale. The shoot took no more than four hours. Unfortunately, the edit took five more days. It was a decision between putting it out unfinished but on time or taking the time to finish it. We chose to finish it.
Much respect and appreciation to everybody who was able to help out/shoot BTS on such short notice but especially to @xstraightflexinx for being the subject. Special thanks to @mister.lano the onset DJ.

The last weekend of December. Moreover, the last weekend of 2024. Crosshairs set on a January logo video. Less than five days to brainstorm, schedule, shoot, edit, design the logo, and export. All we knew was that we wanted to use the opening song from BELLY: “Back to Life” by Soul II Soul. When our original account was taken down and this one created, the song’s title served as a slogan. Hence, [back2life] in the bio and being the song of choice for the first instagram story of this account. So stepping into 2025, this felt like the right decision.
On December 28th, @cino2k and @anthonytedle conceptualized the video. The narrow time frame meant keeping the idea simple but effective. Lighting the blunt, backlit leather jackets, and slow motion were BELLY motifs we wanted to borrow. With the lighting we wanted to play with darkness, gradients, and high contrast. A projector pointed at the subject would display clips of parties and fireworks. Taking off the leather jacket would capture the rough essence of rebirth. More than anything a shirtless torso would look good with the lighting setup in mind.
December 29th was the only night of shooting. All shot against one wall. Requiring only two tube lights and a projector to achieve the desired lighting setup. It was a crew of seven with several of us taking on multiple roles. Not uncommon for us to do on a project of this scale. The shoot took no more than four hours. Unfortunately, the edit took five more days. It was a decision between putting it out unfinished but on time or taking the time to finish it. We chose to finish it.
