Join us for this unforgettable evening!
Film screening @ 7:30pm
Corina's Cantina & Doors open @ 6:30pm
LET THE CITY SPEAK follows the journey of GRAMMY-winning Chicano rock band Quetzal, who emerged from East Los Angeles' vibrant music and art scene in the mid-1990's. Drawing inspiration from the Mayan Zapatista philosophy in the mountains of Chiapas, Mexico, they forged a revolutionary path that fuses powerful music-making with deep grassroots activism.
Q&A with Quetzal band members Quetzal Flores, Martha Gonzalez, and filmmaker Akira Boch after the screening. And bring your Instruments and dancing feet because we want a community fandango to close out the evening!

Thank you @nicolee.macias and @delosangelestimes for giving the @lifefestla some love. I appreciate your acknowledgement and your article is damn right. We’re living in a Hollywood apartheid and every little bit of encouragement goes a long way.⚡️ Latinos make up more than half of Los Angeles yet our stories are gatekept. Aren’t people bored of watching films about white people all the time? Doesn’t it get old watching a tokenized character in a movie? Dr @anachristinaramon and @ucla are about to put out their Hollywood Diversity Theatrical Report on March 12th and I can’t wait to see that data. Their analysis proves we’re in a Hollywood apartheid and I just hope anyone working in the business can make some better decisions when packaging projects. I have hope and am determined to show people how much richer their lives would be if they were exposed to more American films that actually represent our communities. Not every film has to be lead by a white male narrative. Aren’t you bored? How can we get these men to share the spotlight or step aside once in awhile?!! There’s plenty of movie theater screens for everyone. ❤️
I have a huge amount of gratitude for @josefinalopezrwhc @iamcristinanava @irisalmaraz and their work on this terrific festival. I went to my first director’s dinner last night and I sat in a room with at least 40 other brown female directors and it was so empowering.
Our short Transition is screening this Friday night at 8pm in Boyle Heights. It’s Block 3, tickets are available here:

Founded by Josefina Lopez, LIFE Film Fest celebrates movies made by Latina directors. Our mission is to champion films directed by Latinas while driving solutions that expand our presence in the entertainment industry. We believe cinema is both art and action, spotlighting stories that inspire change while building the skills, networks, and opportunities Latinas need to thrive as creators. Through screenings, panels, and mentorship, we connect filmmakers with industry insiders and foster pathways for growth. By amplifying Latina voices on screen and strengthening their presence behind the camera, we create lasting solutions for equity, visibility, and impact in film.
