Every Wednesday we have a free drawing session in our exhibition @balticgateshead in the ground floor gallery. It’s free but sign up via Baltic eventbrite (link in our bio). We would love to encourage as many people to start the day drawing with us.
The session ends with a collective print made on the Riso for you to take away as well as it being pasted up on our Morning Edition billboard in the gallery!
About the video: I won’t be giving up the day job and pursuing a career YouTubing, apologies for the slow talking whilst thinking!!
🤔
The drawing prompts from the last session:
Draw a ghost
Draw something new to the world
Draw something old
Draw something you’ve found on the floor
Draw something your looking forward to
Draw something your not looking forward to
Draw something you wore as a child
Draw the scene out of a window you regularly look out of
Draw water
Draw this song [we played Brenda Fassie: Vulindlela]

Some new prints pasted up in our Starting Lines exhibition @balticgateshead this morning.
Every Tuesday we have a look through the exhibition and see what drawings have been left in the studio. We pick a few to turn into prints and paste them up, as well as any workshop prints that have been made.
All work that we pick made by visitors and from workshops are pasted onto the wooden pillars in the space, with the exception of the Morning Edition prints which always go on the billboard.
Thanks to everyone who has left drawingsin the studio for everyone to look at! It’s especially nice when you spot someone you know (@benji_spence !) amongst it all.
New prints pasted up this week:
1. ‘Justin’ and ‘listen’
2. Justin up close. Is Justin who the picture is of or the artist I wonder
3. Beautiful ‘Scottish Thistle’ growing up from the gallery floor
4&5. ‘Chloe is pure unreal @ iceskating’. I love this. What a nice tribute! I imagine Chloe felt pretty pleased about someone making this.
6. Drawing game between Liam and Christian
7. Last weeks morning edition print went up (on the left). ‘Draw something Stripey’
8. Lush print from an NHS workers workshop drawing views from windows.

THE LAST HOMELY HOUSE WITH FOUNDATION PRESS:
GET OUT OF YOUR HEAD AND INTO YOUR HANDS (2026).
Now our exhibition STARTING LINES is underway @balticgateshead we’ll be gradually sharing artworks from within the show - starting with this truly special collaboration: a beautiful fabric banner made with craft legend @kateatthelasthomelyhouse
****
Each week thousands of people tune in to watch Kate Jackson’s online tutorials and videos exploring quilting and craft processes. Based in rural Northumberland, she has cultivated a thriving online community of makers and enthusiasts inspired by her generous instruction and imaginative creative projects.
We collaborated with Kate to explore ways of constructing an alphabet using fabric. The resulting quilt combines the processes of patchwork and appliqué, stitching around cardboard templates to build bold and colourful letterforms made from recycled fabric scraps.
The fabric letters were assembled into a large positive message. Get Out of Your Head and Into Your Hands is a phrase often used in Kate’s videos – an invitation to set aside worries through the act of making.
We are enormously grateful to Kate for sharing her skills and expertise + for being so enthusiastic for figuring this one out. It was a lot of work but is a real treasure!

ADDING ART WORK INTO THE STARTING LINES EXHIBITION
Here are some of the excellent artworks that we have pasted up today @balticgateshead into the gallery using the bill board and columns.
This is also a reminder that our free morning drawing session ‘Morning Edition’ is on tomorrow 10:30-12 and there’s still spaces left for it. This runs EVERY Wednesday throughout the exhibition and at the end of each session we make a print from the group drawings that is added to the gallery.
It’s been really fun looking through the artwork left on display in the studio spaceand picking ones to make into prints for the main gallery. Maybe someone will spot ones of their own…
1) Kindness is King by Joel printed on gold paper
2)’R’ by Rachel
3) Finding the words by Rachel S
4) by Erin D (you might have to work a bit to find this one in the actual space!)
5&6) Animals by HostNation @hostnation_ne
7,8&9) Morning Edition prints
10) Pattern by Emcol.26
11) Workshop Prompts by Baltic Young Producers

8. WRITE YOUR OWN STARTING LINE SUGGESTING A CREATIVE ACTION
So happy to see what people have been contributing to this piece over the weekend in our STARTING LINES Exhibition @balticgateshead - looking forward to trying some of them out!
Alongside this the studio wall is already busy and full of art work made and left by visitors. We’ve started pulling bits out and pasting them up on the gallery columns as well as pieces from workshops. We will share a little round up next Tuesday of new additions into the exhibition!
If you’re visiting, Baltic is closed until 2pm today for a building maintenance fix but then it’s open as normal :-)

JOE
We have a very important section of our exhibition @balticgateshead which is about creative tributes to people, part of which features this drawing by our friend Joe Woodhouse who we miss in many many ways. One way is as a collaborator as part of Foundation Press. Joe was also our epic course leader and artist in his own right.
TODAY you can see his work at the National Glass Centre in an exhibition organised by his sister Alice as part of the @fromthefoundations programme.
There is a symposium 2-5pm which has some very exciting speakers (in the slides!) covering areas that Joe was passionate about
He was an amazing artist, friend and teacher for us. If you need a bit of inspiration or community, or just to see something beautiful, pop along this afternoon.

FOUNDATION PRESS: STARTING LINES
OPENS FRIDAY 17th APRIL 6-8pm
@balticgateshead
In anticipation of the show opening (the first public day is this Saturday), here are some tiny glimpses of just some of the labour behind making the exhibition. We aren’t talking about the artwork themselves but the making of the space and all the thought and work and brains and people that went into it. What a wild and epic experience! We are so lucky.
We will be making a credit zine which will appear in the show at some point soon that will show more photos, but for now…
1) tech royal family on a tea break on the last install day ❤️
@bingocrew @jemmahind89 @mat_flower and Chloe
2) Katy C riding high
3) Field Print of Bolden Colliery trimming some wallpaper for us - 💯 our fav printers we use for litho, use them and enjoy the inkyness and Graham’s gentle wisdom.
4) Lucien sharpening up the billboard
5) Clare G and Katharine W delivering this giant art baby safe and sound
6) Jim and his flock of coloured vitrines
7) Jemma keeping it real with the lists and keeping us all sorted, big time
8) Joe about to take the columns to the ceiling!
9)Adam precision painting
10) Mat cladding the heart of the show
11) Lucien and Joein the scissor lift making epic columns
12) Riso ninjas Matt and Dan! More about this later
13) Debbie pasting and pasting some more
Missing techs from the photos are the legendary two Johns!
Such a big group effort - we are so excited for everyone to be able to come and see it!

We will be making a credit zine which will appear in the show at some point soon that will show more photos, but for now…
1) tech royal family on a tea break on the last install day ❤️
@bingocrew @jemmahind89 @mat_flower and Chloe
