I never took being friends with Sean for granted. I knew him for 30 years. Since he first moved from Toronto to Vancouver. I was always stoked to hang out, to do gigs for him in the beginning and then gigs with him, later on. To get random texts about records (45s) that needed an immediate answer lol, to chat about ideas, make plans, send random hilarious memes of course. He used to put me on his first shows as a DJ in the 90s, then in the 2000s he took his passion for music to the next level and started to DJ himself and started a night called “Elsewhere” he asked me and @hedspin to be the resident DJs. The idea was to play music you wouldn’t hear “elsewhere.” “Play what you really want to play” Those nights in the backroom of Shine were legendary. Little did I know that this would become his literal identity later on: @elsewheresonido.
We shared an affinity for trying to continue the Stevie Wrote It legacy started by @koolboblove and @djspinna and Sean actually ended up finding NEW Stevie covers on 45 that he got to Bobbito. I also met my big bro @djmaseo through Sean.
I never took any of these things for granted.
You see, through all of these shared moments there is one common thread. It’s that Sean really believed in me. He believed in me more than I believed in myself, as a DJ. (I know he championed @ihcrenrut this same way too <3 ). He never stopped encouraging me to step outside my comfort zone “wtf are you doing? you should be touring. You gotta go to Brazil, go to Japan, you’re wasting your time here.” He would almost be yelling at me, frustrated like a coach. He really put that battery in my pack over and over again. I always appreciated that about him. I trusted him. His input, his ideas. His taste. The passion he had for so many of exactly the same things I did. I never took that for granted! I’m no dummy!
Why I didn’t know what to write these past 2 days is because he was a huge part of my life, much more than I realized and it’s really painful that he’s gone so suddenly. And it’s heartbreaking that the CULTURE has lost him. He gave EVERYTHING to the culture.
Rest In Peace Sean.
Thank you for everything
We’ll see you “Elsewhere” my brother.

My tribute to Dave aka Trugoy The Dove 🕊️ Plug 2.
Dedicated to brother @plugwondelasoul and my big brother MASEO @wearedelasoul@vinnymerlot love you guys ❤️
Pos posted a pic of Dave in his stories playing “When Will The Day Come” by Rasa… something inclined me to put this together with their incredible and now even more heart wrenching song “Trying People”… a song so personal to De La, that has touched so many people so profoundly, and now stands out, in some ways, as Dave’s musical last will and testament. (Respectfully).
We are all trying people. We are all trying, people 🙏
(Instrumental is a cover by Jared Hines on @j4jrecords 🙌)

The dj is @flipout and he’s spinning 45s. The MC is JUNK and he’s going off the top for 45 minutes straight. Together they call 45s and Rhymes. We don’t rehearse. This is purely off the cuff. And even more so iconic at the one and only @beatstreetrecords.
