What exactly is reparations? 🤔
Reparations is about more than the past; it’s about repairing harm that still shapes millions of lives today. From housing discrimination to wealth gaps and so much in between, the impact is ongoing.

Join us today at the Evanston Library from 6:00 PM–7:30 PM for the book launch of Evanston Speaks.
Evanston Speaks Description:
What can the stories of community leaders reveal about the spirit and transformation of a city? Evanston Speaks: Oral Histories of Transformation and Triumph from Community Leaders in a Progressive City by Elliott Hurtig brings together powerful personal narratives that illuminate the evolving identity of Evanston, Illinois.
Through a series of candid interviews, Hurtig captures the voices of educators, activists, artists, business owners, and public officials whose lives have been deeply shaped by the city. Each story reflects the challenges, achievements, and shared commitments that have helped define Evanston as a progressive and engaged community. Together, these oral histories form a collective portrait of a city where leadership, collaboration, and civic participation drive social change.
Two of our FirstRepair staff members are featured in this book. We look forward to seeing you there!!!

Join us for our monthly Reparations Strategy Session with Dr. Jeffrey Trask this Thursday, April 23 at 12:30 pm CST!
Similar to housing, land ownership, education, employment, the criminal justice system, and other areas of injustice, healthcare has a history and present that calls for reparations. Whether individual legacies such as Henrietta Lacks or a history of horrific experimentation such as the Tuskegee study, healthcare has a marred past where Black people suffered with little to no compensation. Additionally, current statistics show significant disparities in nearly all health indicators - due to the past and ongoing issues regarding healthcare access, delivery, and quality. The session will end with a discussion with a vision for reparations in healthcare that is determined by Black people.
