The PAC is heartbroken to learn of the passing of Juno-nominated Cree cellist and composer Cris Derksen.

Cris was a visionary artist whose transformative work expanded the landscape of both classical and contemporary music in Canada and beyond. Through a sound entirely their own, Cris bridged classical music, Indigenous musical traditions, and contemporary electronic sounds in ways that were poignant and incredibly moving. Beyond their immense artistic collaborations and contributions, Cris was also a powerful advocate for Indigenous artists.

We were honoured to welcome Cris to our stage through Orchestral Powwow as part of Celebration of Nations, alongside members of the NSO, and in an unforgettable digital performance with Adam CK Vollick in Robertson Theatre during the pandemic. Their performances left a lasting impression on our audiences and community.

Our hearts are with Cris’s family, friends, and community as they mourn this incredible loss.

We went to see Finding Home: A Salmon Journey Upstream, a hilarious and heartfelt play about friendship, growing up, and finding your own path. From the moment we hopped on the school bus to the final curtain, it was such a special adventure.
With puppetry, live music, and so much charm, the story of Beagle and Sojo reminded us how strong friendship can be, even when life takes you in different directions.
