We start from the belief that communal music and sound-making have the potential to be liberatory, freedom-making practices that bring us together and allow us to start organising for the worlds we dream towards.

Saeeda Studio has three guiding principles:

1. WE ARE PRESENT

2. WE LISTEN

3. WE SOUND & SING IN THE WAYS WE NEED

Everyone is welcome, whether you are a professional musician, this is your first time ever making sound with people, or you just want to listen. There is no right or wrong way to be here: each session is an invitation to engage in the ways you need to on that day

Please note that the venue has accessible toilets, step free access, and is wheelchair accessible. There will also be a separate space that you can access at any time for a break. Please email us directly with any ideas or requests for how we can make this space more accessible for you: saeedastudio@gmail.com.

About the organiser

Fatima is a musician, researcher and creative facilitator who is dedicated to music and sound making as tools for togetherness, healing, and radical imagination. Some of Fatima's recent work includes a series of workshops for Muslims and people of Muslim heritage in London to engage with music, sound and healing, a collaborative sound mapping project in Cairo, Egypt, and a project about dhikr, birds and ecologies.

When Fatima was growing up, she used to create workshops at home for her siblings, that they called 'Saeeda School' (saeeda means 'happy' in Arabic). Her hope for Saeeda Studio is that it's a place of joy, community healing and justice!

Tickets are pay what you can - all proceeds made from this event will go into paying back the venue hire fee, or going towards next month's venue hire

Our Choir of refugee women, Voices of Hope, is proud to release their original song “Love is Everything”.

The Choir meet weekly to connect, build confidence, and share solidarity through lyric writing, composing and singing.

Through music and melody, they remind us that all we need is love to build a community rooted in care and kindness.

Delulu day in my life!! Working on a cool project with @4refugeewomen on the train journey, teaching seminars on museums and colonial legacies @geographyuom , got a free iced coffee and karak chai and even got to try some tin whistles 🐦

My programme was inspired by imagining what another sky would sound like, look like, contain... I performed one of my own poems about birds who obstruct israeli planes, with fairouz's jayebli salam on one side and a sung version of Danez Smith's 'poem' on the other. I also got to play from my zine-score "this is a map" which I made in Cairo last month, alongside recordings of songs I recorded from the window on Eid morning. The last piece was another poem of mine about children with hearts like birds, which turns into a lullaby I wrote thinking about very loved family members. It was the first time I've ever performed my own words on stage! Thanks so much to everyone who came and to Sam and Emily for inviting me and for creating such a lovely space. All the other performers were also phenomenal and such a privilege to get to hear them 🤩
